Quinn Ewers has emerged as a true leader for Texas

Outside of Sam Ehlinger, Texas hasn’t had a quarterback that doubles both as a star and a great leader.

Ehlinger was the type of guy that players would run through a brick wall for, and something that Texas lost when he went to the NFL was that type of leadership at quarterback.

This obviously directly ties into the fact that neither Casey Thompson or Hudson Card performed as well as Ehlinger in that department. While they may have grown as leaders, it was likely difficult to lead when you don’t know where you stand on the depth chart.

For Texas’ current quarterback Quinn Ewers, he has a year of experience under his belt and has been consistently raved about during the offseason for the strides he has taken both on and off the field. Ewers fended off five-star Arch Manning and Maalik Murphy during spring, and has also changed his approach as the starting quarterback at Texas.

In a recent report by On3 it was revealed that Ewers has put a claim on the quarterback room, but more importantly has become a leader on the team.

We’ve been detailing his maturation all offseason. In the last 6-7 months, the sophomore has gone from working to improve himself to becoming more confident in a leadership role. This is working but only because of how much he has matured this offseason. He’s gone from being a likable, if not soft-spoken teammate to becoming a respected one. His role as de facto team leader won’t be cemented until he takes his improvement to the field, but he’s trending that direction.

The report also revealed the fact that Ewers is outworking everyone and has been making it a point to get better any way he can. This past season Ewers didn’t live up to the national expectations of a former No. 1 overall recruit, and it is clear he didn’t live up to the expectations of his own.

If you are a Texas fan you love to see everything we have heard about Ewers’ growth this offseason.
