Memphis educator wins Tennessee Teacher of the Year

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Tennessee Division of Training has introduced this yr’s Trainer of the Yr — an educator from Memphis-Shelby County Faculties!

Dr. Melissa Collins, a second-grade instructor from John P. Freeman Elective College, was chosen because the 2022-23 Tennessee Trainer of the Yr on the division’s annual Excellence in Training celebration.

“Thanks for all of your laborious work and dedication to your college students,” the division tweeted.

Collins has been educating for 21 years and represents her college because the STEM Coordinator on the district degree.

Collins serves on a number of boards and committees on the state and nationwide degree, the place she collaborates with educators to develop STEM curricula {and professional} growth.

In 2018, Collins was chosen by the Varkey Basis as one of many finalists for the International Trainer Prize primarily based on her effectiveness and provoking college students to assist them be taught.
