Former President Donald Trump’s campaign said former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie needs “professional help” after the fellow Republican primary candidate expressed skepticism about Trump’s recent South Carolina rally that reportedly drew 50,000 people.

“50,000 is absurd,” Christie said on Fox News Sunday. “But I am not going to get in an argument about that.”

However, the massive crowd at Trump’s recent Pickens County, South Carolina, rally has been confirmed by both the county’s police chief and the county’s Republican chairman, who is remaining neutral in the primary race.

According to Pickens Police Chief Randall Beach, there were 50,000 people in attendance at minimum. “I would not be shocked if it were closer to 60 (thousand),” he told the Greenville News. “If someone has an estimate closer to 70 (thousand) I wouldn’t question it.”

Pickens County Republican Party Chairman Bob Fetterly told the Washington Examiner, “In terms of sheer numbers, it’s — I mean — it’s not even close, as I’m sure you know. Trump just packed 50,000 people into a town that’s home to 3,400.”

Estimates of 10,000 to 30,000 were made ahead of the rally and when Trump took the stage, he said there were 75,000 people.

The humidity and temperatures rising into the 90s didn’t stop supporters of the former president from showing up, and about 50 people even had to seek shelter due to the heat inside Pickens First Baptist Church.

“Besides the church, we were using our cars, stairwells at the courthouse, and police department,” Beach said.

“Chris Christie lives in a perpetual fantasy land where he thinks he can be president. Everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie wrapped in incoherent psychotic rage and he needs to get some professional help,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement to the Washington Examiner.
