South Carolina Football: Gamecocks in the game for elite North Carolina prospect
South Carolina football continues its positive momentum in recruiting EDGE rushers.
Since the start of August, the Gamecocks have picked up a commitment from elite 5-star Dylan Stewart and been named in the “top schools” lists for several other big-time prospects at the position.
4-star Booker Pickett, Jr. (class of 2024) put the Gamecocks in his top-5.
4-star Zahir Mathis (class of 2025) named USC as one of his top-12 programs.
4-star CJ May (class of 2025) put Carolina in his top-10.
Now, on Wednesday, another class of 2025 defensive end announced his interest in the South Carolina football program.
Greensboro, North Carolina native Bryce Davis, another 4-star EDGE player, named his top-12 schools, and the ‘Cocks made the cut. South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida, Miami, Southern Cal, and Duke make up his early list.
Davis is a borderline 5-star according to some recruiting outlets, and he is inside the top-120 players in the country according to all four major recruiting services (On3, 247Sports, Rivals, and ESPN).
As a player, the 6’4″, 240-pound pass rusher pops off of the screen when watching his film. He lines up all over the front for his Grimsley High School squad as a traditional defensive end, a stand-up EDGE rusher, and even inside at defensive tackle.
Everywhere Davis lines up, he is disruptive. With a quick first step off the snap, he wins in a variety of ways. His plus-athleticism allows him to run by some blockers, but he is not afraid to initiate contact with an offensive lineman before shedding him in pursuit of the ball carrier. He also displays a good inside move that allows him to close ground on running plays from the backside.
He also plays tight end for his high school team, but most of his film is as a defensive player for good reason. He will play defense at the next level, and he has all the tools to be very successful.
