Heart of gold! Teen saved South Carolina marriage proposal by finding lost ring in the sand

This story has a nice ring to it.

A teenager saved a couple’s South Carolina beach marriage proposal from disaster by using a metal detector to find the lost ring — which the groom-to-be had dropped in the sand before popping the question, cops and witnesses said.

“If they have a son, name the son after me,” ring sleuth Isaiah Krekeler, 15,  told Good Morning America when asked what reward he wanted.

The wanna-be finace from Tennessee had planned to pop the question to his girlfriend in Myrtle Beach on July 1, when the ring fell out of his pocket while he was snapping seaside photos, Myrtle Beach Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Krekeler, who was visiting from Ohio, saw police and other beach-goers searching for the engagement band with a dog named Goggles and offered to help, he said.

He whipped out his metal detector and found the ring under a pile of sand in  about 45 seconds — reviving the romantic moment.

Krekeler handed the ring to the man’s girlfriend and she hugged him, he told the local station WYFF.

“I felt like I saved a marriage,” he said.  “It felt really good to do.”

The unidentified man then got down on one knee to propose — and  she said yes.

Police and witnesses didn’t immediately return calls Thursday.
