Greenville, Spartanburg to see state, county races alongside presidential on ballot in 2024

This year, South Carolina will be the first state to hold a Democratic Presidential Primary on Saturday, Feb. 3.

South Carolina voters will play a role in national politics and vote on the U.S. House of Representatives, State Senate, and State House of Representatives in 2024.

Greenville County Council also has eight seats up for grabs.

For Greenville County residents interested in applying for a board or commission, Greenville County will post all vacancies on commissions or boards on Feb. 15 for the spring cycle and Aug. 15 for the fall cycle.

For city of Greenville residents interested in applying for a seat on a board or commission, applicants must apply before Feb. 1 for terms beginning in May and Aug. 1 for terms beginning in November.

Spartanburg County Council has three seats coming up for reelection. Spartanburg County Sheriff is also up for reelection.

Applications for vacancies on the boards and commissions in Spartanburg are available now on the city and county websites.

2024 election dates to remember:

Feb. 3: Democratic Presidential Preference Primary

Feb. 24: Republican Presidential Preference Primary

June 11: Statewide Democratic and Republican primaries

June 25: Democratic and Republican Runoffs (if necessary)

Nov. 5: Statewide general election.

Jan. 23: Deadline for voters to apply for an absentee ballot for the Democratic Preference Primary.

Feb. 2: Deadline to vote early in person for the Democratic Presidential Preference Primary.

Feb. 12: Early voting for Republican Presidential Preference Primary. Polls are open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
