Damage, power outages reported following storms across the Carolinas

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Multiple severe warnings and watches were in effect across the Carolinas Monday afternoon and officials confirmed that damage and power outages were reported following the storms.

According to Duke Energy’s outage report, the following areas are experiencing outages.

  • Anderson County, SC: 10,007 customers without power
  • Greenville County, SC: 4,978 customers without power
  • Rutherford County, NC: 1,892 customers without power
  • Spartanburg County, SC: 1,342 customers without power
  • Laurens County, SC: 967 customers without power
  • Buncombe County, NC: 373customers without power
  • Mitchell County, NC: 262 customers without power
  • Swain County, NC: 121 customers without power

People can also track power outages on Duke Energy’s website.

The Anderson County Coroner’s Office confirmed that they responded to Arnold Drive in Anderson after a tree fell and killed a 15-year-old.

In Greenville County, the Wade Hampton Fire Department crews responded to Edwards Road at around 4:40 pm. after a falling tree knocked over powerlines and landed near a van with two people inside. Officials said Duke Energy responded to the scene and turned off the power so the two people inside the vehicle were able to get out safely.

The Greenville Fire Department said crews responded to 29 calls from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. They added that about half of the calls were for electrical hazards or downed powerlines.

According to the National Weather Service, there were over 200 reports of wind damage in our area. Here is a look at the areas hit hardest.
