14-year-old boy accidentally shoots brother, 8, outside Oklahoma Walmart
A 14-year-old boy accidentally shot his 8-year-old brother in the chest in a Walmart parking lot in Oklahoma Tuesday afternoon, according to reports.
The two were sitting inside a car while their mother was shopping at the store in Choctaw when the older brother found a gun and inadvertently shot his sibling around 2 p.m., Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall told The Post.
Bystanders heard the single shot and called 911.
Two police officers arrived on scene and applied two chest seals to the boy’s entry and exit wounds to stop any bleeding, Marshall said.
The boy was alert and talking at the scene.
He was initially going to be airlifted to a hospital but responders decided to take him to the University of Oklahoma trauma center by ambulance, according to the chief.
His condition is believed to be stable and he is currently awaiting potential surgery, Marshall said.
There are conflicting reports regarding the gun in question.
Some outlets reported that the boys’ father is an Oklahoma City police officer and the gun was his, although he was not present.
KOCO reported that police later confirmed that the brothers were related to a police department employee and it’s unclear who the gun belongs to.
Marshall said the investigation is ongoing and more information would be released when available.
