UNC Football: Zion Ferguson flips commitment to North Carolina

After originally pledging to LSU, this four-star prospect had a change of heart, flipping his commitment to the UNC football program.

Back in September, four-star cornerback Zion Ferguson announced his verbal commitment to LSU.

Ever since, the UNC football program has gained momentum in his recruitment, as he has officially flipped his commitment in favor of the Tar Heels.

While on an official visit to Chapel Hill, Ferguson made it known that North Carolina was the place he wants to be. This change of heart comes after a few visits to campus over the last few months, including his official stop this weekend.

Ferguson discussed his decision with Don Callahan of Inside Carolina:

“I knew there was something there when every time it was time to leave, we ended up spending another 45 minutes talking to the coaches. I just fell in love there. My grandmom came and she loved it, too.”

The four-star prospect has family ties to the area, as his grandmother resides in Durham. He is also friends with current Tar Heels Marcus Allen and Kaleb Cost, both of whom are also Atlanta area natives.

Ferguson is ranked. by 247Sports Composite as the No. 305 overall prospect as well as the No. 26 overall cornerback in the nation. He also sits at No. 38 prospect in the state of Georgia rankings, as he’s viewed as one of the top defensive backs in the area.

This is a huge addition for Mack Brown and the UNC Football program, as they continue to haul in talent in their 2024 recruiting class. They’ll look to continue strengthening their secondary, as Ferguson is a player who can help them do that moving forward.
