NC State falls to Campbell 11-1 in Columbia Regional elimination game :: WRALSportsFan.com

— The NC State baseball team concluded its 2023 season with an 11-1 defeat to the No. 12 Campbell Fighting Camels in the NCAA Columbia Regional on Sunday afternoon at Founders Park.

The Wolfpack (36-21) finishes the 2023 season with its 17th NCAA Columbia Regional appearance in the past 20 years. The Wolfpack has won 35 games or more in 11 of the past 12 full seasons.

Campbell (46-14) scored the first eight runs of the game to advance to the NCAA Columbia Regional final on Sunday night against South Carolina. The Fighting Camels hit three homers in the opening three innings to build an early 7-0 lead.

NC State grounded into two doubles plays with a combined five runners on base between the second and third innings. The Wolfpack grounded into four double plays on the afternoon.

Wolfpack reliever Baker Nelson allowed just one run over 3.1 innings on the mound, striking out two while scattering five hits. The NC State bullpen efforts from Nelson, Justin Lawson, Rio Britton, Carson Kelly and Win Scott combined to pitch 6.2 innings and allowed just four runs with five strikeouts.

Cannon Peebles delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the Wolfpack on the board. Peebles’ single to right field scored Payton Green from second base. Green led off the bottom of the seventh with a single through the left side.

Campbell starting pitcher Chance Daquila (9-1) stranded 10 runners on base over seven innings on the mound. Daquila earned the win after allowing just one run and eight hits on the afternoon.

Campbell stretched its lead to its final margin at 11-1 with three runs in the top of the eighth.

Freshman Eli Serrano III led NC State with a 3-for-3 day at the plate. Noah Soles and Peebles also recorded multi-hit performances, smacking two hits apiece while combining for three walks.

Bryce Arnold and Grant Knipp paced the Campbell lineup with three hits apiece.

Sam Highfill (6-4) suffered the loss on the mound for NC State.
