Governor Cooper proposes budget to expand NC state zoo

ASHEBORO, N.C. — Governor Cooper is seeking to deliver new life to the North Carolina state zoo for the primary time since 1994, by proposing a brand new continent space.

Channel 9′s companions on the Charlotte Observer reported that Cooper’s proposed funds contains 50 full-time employees positions for the brand new Asia continent exhibit, which is about to open in 2026.

The brand new Asia continent exhibit will be part of present Africa and North America displays, making it the most important pure habitat at a zoo.

Cooper’s funds doesn’t cease at a brand new continent exhibit; funding may even be used to take down the previous aviary constructing and design a substitute.

Along with the state zoo upgrades, the governor has requested for an extra $25 million for the ‘Nice Trails State Fund’, which is able to finally join all 100 North Carolina counties by trails.
