Elkins was being transported from Benton County to DeSoto County on Monday around noon when he asked officers to use the restroom. Officers complied and pulled over on the side of Mississippi Highway 4 near the border of Marshall and Benton counties. That’s when Elkins made a run for it.

Elkins, who was just weeks away from being up for parole, saw one day of freedom but will now face additional time for escaping.
