Videos show latest police shootings in Broward, Miami

MIAMI – Videos show deputy and police-involved shootings that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was investigating in Broward County’s city of Pompano Beach and Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy-involved shooting was shortly before 11:30 p.m., on Wednesday, near the intersection of West Copans Road and Blount Road after Rafael A. Molina, 59, of Lake Worth, shot and killed Warren H. Chambers, 42, of Apopka.

The three BSO deputies involved were on administrative assignment pending the investigation. Sheriff Gregory Tony said the murder suspect fired at deputies and the deputies returned fire.

“The armed suspect was pronounced deceased on scene. Detectives learned the suspect shot and killed his co-worker,” Veda Coleman-Wright, a BSO spokeswoman, wrote in a statement.

In Miami, witness video shows the police-involved shooting that injured Donald Armstrong on Thursday at his family home near the intersection of Northwest Seventh Court and 57 Street.

Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales released a statement saying that aside from the FDLE investigation there was also an ongoing department internal investigation.

“Transparency and accountability to our community will always remain our goal,” Morales said.

The chief also asked everyone in the community to pray for Armstrong and his family. Armstrong’s mother called 911 for help and pleaded with officers not to kill him.

“I pledge to ensure that our department does better in addressing calls involving mental and behavioral issues,” Morales said.

The alert mostly impacted “unusually sensitive people” who need to ”consider making outdoor activities light and short” and “go inside to cleaner air” if they have symptoms, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

NWS meteorologists warned that “near surface smoke” is likely to worsen into Saturday night, as “thunderstorm winds cause spreading into populated areas followed by poor dispersion.”

Two wildfires between Krome Avenue and the Florida Turnpike had burned more than 20,000 acres and were mostly contained by Saturday afternoon.

The Florida Forest Service reported the wildfire known as “The Quarry 2″ had burned 19,003 acres and was 100% contained, and a wildfire known as “Well” had burned 1,525 acres and was 70% contained.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel recommended limiting outdoor activity when possible, keeping windows and doors closed, and setting the air conditioner to recirculate. Miami-Dade was also under a heat advisory.
