University of Miami fraternity closed after allegations into drugged drinks, disturbing chants
MIAMI – The Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity has been completely faraway from the College of Miami after allegations of misogyny and spiking drinks.
A leaked video of an off-campus occasion on Oct.1st reveals male college students chanting about raping ladies, and what they’d do to their corpses.
“It is sick and it is loopy that they’re chanting it collectively,” says UM pupil Patrick McCaslin.
McCaslin is the scholar editor on the college newspaper, the Miami Hurricane, who first reported the story.
Patricia A. Whitely, the College of Miami Senior Vice President for College students launched this assertion:
“The College of Miami frequently communicates a transparent set of insurance policies and expectations to all of our Greek organizations which are designed to encourage a secure, wholesome, and constructive expertise for UM college students. The College obtained allegations the Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter violated college coverage and took part in conduct that’s inconsistent with the values and expectations of the college neighborhood and their nationwide fraternity. We’ve got partnered with Sigma Phi Epsilon for 73 years, and we assist their resolution to shut the chapter efficient instantly.”
The nationwide headquarters of Sigma Phi Epsilon advised CBS 4:
“On Friday, the Sigma Phi Epsilon’s Nationwide Board of Administrators unanimously determined to revoke the constitution of the chapter on the College of Miami. The Nationwide Headquarters obtained admissible data that SigEp members violated coverage and engaged in actions that aren’t aligned with the values of this Fraternity.”
We anticipate SigEp chapters to supply their members and campus neighborhood with a secure and supportive atmosphere. That is the cornerstone of a constructive Fraternity and college expertise, so we take that expectation severely and maintain our chapters to that customary.”
As of proper now, no expenses have been filed, and it is unclear if there shall be any disciplinary actions.
