Student surrenders to police after peer stabbed during fight at Miami-Dade high school

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A student who is accused of attacking one of his peers Thursday has turned himself in to authorities, Miami-Dade Schools Police confirmed.

Police said the student initially fled the scene, prompting a large response from police.

Miami-Dade Schools Police said it was around lunch-time Thursday when two ninth graders at North Miami Beach Senior High School agreed to meet near the bleachers in the back of the school to fight one another.

Investigators said it was during that fight that one of the students pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the other.

Sky 10 was above the scene as the victim was airlifted to the hospital.

The incident prompted a massive response from police who locked down the school, searching for the teen who ran away.

Concerned parents, meanwhile, rushed over to check on the safety of their children.

“You gotta be scared about what’s going on in there, and your kids are in there, so it’s scary” parent Yajaira Rojas said.

Local 10 has learned that the injured student is in stable condition.

As for the suspect, his name has not yet been released but we have learned that he is scheduled to face a judge Friday.
