Max Verstappen F1 future update after pre-Miami talks with F1 boss
Stefano Domenicali has ruled out an early F1 departure for Max Verstappen having spoken to him shortly before the Miami Grand Prix.
Verstappen’s long-term future in the sport is in doubt after the 25-year-old suggested he could walk away when his current contract with Red Bull ends in 2028.
While the Dutchman loves racing, he is not so fond of the other aspects that come with being a Formula 1 driver.
Already frustrated by the workload, he recently further brought his future into question following changes to the sprint format, saying any more and the sport would not be “worth it.”
While 2028 is still five years away, it is already a much-talked about subject considering the records Verstappen could go on to break. He is the youngest ever F1 driver and winner and already has two titles to his name, in theory he could bow out of the sport level with Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher on seven World Championships.
The sport’s boss Domenicali believes Verstappen will stick around having spoken about the “issues” with the son of Jos Verstappen ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.
“I discussed the issues with Max (before the last race in Miami),” he told the Daily Mail. “He said he loved the sport and what he was doing. He is World Champion and is fighting for a third title. He was born in a car. I would say he is likely to stay longer than me. It’s not a problem.”

Max Verstappen: In hindsight it’s easy to say ‘I saw this coming’
Domenicali did however suggest that drivers such as Verstappen need to not be “selfish” when it comes to the demands of the sport as Formula 1 looks to appease more audiences.
As well as the sprint format changes, drivers were not happy with the glitzy entrance they were forced to endure just moments ahead of the Miami race.
“I don’t want a society in which people cannot say what they want,” the Italian said. “But drivers sometimes need to remember that they are part of a broader picture. We don’t need to be selfish.
“They are part of this sport and this business, and it grows because we are thinking bigger. Sometimes being out of our comfort zone is not easy, but we cannot be lazy or complacent – just as we can review some of the specifics of the sprint weekend format at the end of the season once we have tried it out on the intended six occasions. We won’t have sprints every weekend, either.
“But we have a new audience and need to provide value for money every session, not let everyone drive around in circles for the sole benefit of engineers and drivers.”

Toxicology report to help solve mystery in Miami and Miami-Dade
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two police departments and the medical examiner’s office were working together to figure out how a man died.
While a toxicology report was pending on Saturday, Local 10 News sources believe a body found in a wooded preserve area in western Miami-Dade was connected to a missing person’s case further east in Miami.
Miami-Dade and Miami police officers worked together on Wednesday north of Eighth Street and west of Southwest 137 Avenue when a Dade police dog found the body shortly after 1 p.m., in an early stage of decomposition.
According to detectives familiar with the search near the Tamiami Bike Trail area, the white man was 30 to 40 years old, he was only wearing sweatpants, he was “lying supine on the ground” — and his body did not show any signs of trauma.
Detectives involved in the city and county cases were waiting. On Thursday, the medical examiner, Dr. Nicholas Barna, decided he needed toxicology to determine the man’s cause of death.
Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.

Is Tua Tagovailoa Playing Hardball – The Splash Zone 5/18/24
The Miami Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa have been a big talking point this offseason as the team tries to get their quarterback an extension. Tua is currently playing on the fifth-year option but would love to be rewarded with a new contract. Last month, Tua stated he would show up to OTA’s and let his agent deal with contract details. The Dolphins began their offseason program last month and while Tua showed up, he has decided to sit out most of it. It is voluntary though but perhaps the quarterback is protesting his contract status. We’ll have a better understanding of how Tua feels when he decides whether or not to show up for Dolphins OTA’s next week.
You can check out that story here, and the rest of the day’s round-up below.

Police chief: ‘Gang nexus’ prompts shooting in Miami Gardens
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Chief Delma K. Noel-Pratt said on Friday a “gang nexus” caused the shooting that woke up residents on Wednesday in Miami Gardens.
Surveillance video shows the flashes of light from the propellant gases that exited the firearms near Northwest 196 Street and 42 Avenue.
“There were flashes all over the place,” Luis Rivera said. “I could see it through the curtains.”
The area is home to Miami Gardens Elementary School and the Tender Loving Care Preschool. Bullets damaged cars and houses. Rivera lives with a 6-year-old girl who is undergoing cancer treatment.
After the shooting, the driver of a Nissan crashed into a fence and intruders ran. Rivera said he feared they were going to break into his home.
It’s unclear if other recent shootings in Miami Gardens have been gang-related too.
In April, a shooting injured two teens and three adults near Northwest 197 Street and 14 Avenue after a fight at Miami Norland Senior High School, at 1193 NW 193 St.
In March, the city had two shootings injuring four in one morning. Three were wounded near Northwest 198 Street and Sixth Place, and a man was shot near Northwest 210 Street and 38 Avenue.
Two men were shot dead on Jan. 13: Reynaldo Romanez was shot near Northwest 207 Street and 27 Avenue, and Javares Williams near Northwest 209 Terrace and 34 Court.
Federal, state, and local law enforcement partners reported “various street gangs” operated in and around Miami Gardens when a grand jury indicted 22 allegedly associated with the Zone 3 gang in 2019.
The Miami Gardens Police Department’s street intelligence unit has also been working with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office’s Gang Strike Force.
Detectives asked anyone with information to call police at 305-474-6473 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
