Dolphins Have Their New Long-Snapper

The Miami Dolphins wasted little time filling their need for a temporary long-snapper, and they’re again going the practice squad route.

Per NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Dolphins are signing Tucker Addington to the practice squad to replace veteran Matt Overton, who was released Monday after being elevated his maximum three times to fill in while Blake Ferguson remains on the Reserve/Non-Illness list.

Addington, who played collegiately at Sam Houston State, has played seven NFL games, including one with the New England Patriots this season. He also played three games for New England in 2022 and three games for the Washington Commanders last season.

Because of NFL rules, Overton was not allowed to play another regular season game for Miami as a practice squad elevation, which meant the Dolphins had to sign him to the active roster at some point before the game against the Los Angeles Rams next Monday night or pick up another long-snapper.

Ferguson has one more game to sit out after being placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list on October 19, making him eligible to return for the game against the Las Vegas Raiders on November 17.

With Addington now aboard, here is where the Dolphins practice squad stands. As a reminder, the Dolphins have 17 openings because they have an exemption for Dominican offensive lineman Bayron Matos.

Miami Women’s Basketball Dominate Second Half In Win; First Alert; November 5, 2024

It was a slow first half but the Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball team took care of business against Stetson 78-53 in the opening game of the season.

With children streaming at the top of their lungs after anything the Lady Canes did, they started to find their rhythm as a team thanks to the dominant performance from Notre Dame Transfer Nat Marshall and the dynamic duo between Hanna and Hailey Cavinder.

Hanna finished with the highest plus/minus on the team with 34 and played often with her sister(something that did not happen a lot during their previous tenure with the Hurricanes)

The Hurricanes hounded the glass finishing with 58 rebounds. That tell you how much miss was going on but in the first game of the season, the hustle effort was all that could be asked.

The Canes will return to the court next Monday, Nov. 11, when they are slated to host Jacksonville at 7 p.m.

Miami Central High School football forced to forfeit games over ineligible player

The Miami Central High School football team is being forced to forfeit a number of games over an ineligible player.

The Florida High School Athletic Association deemed the Miami Central Rockets used an ineligible player and they must now forfeit all 8 victories, according to a report released Monday.

The team was also placed on administrative probation until Nov. 1, 2025, and was fined $900 for the violation.

According to the ruling, the Rockets used a fifth-year student-athlete and self-reported the violation. The name of the student was redacted from the report from the FHSAA.

The Miami-Dade County School Board has not sent over a statement, but the report said the school will take corrective actions and mentioned “The alleged player has been removed from the practice and will never play football again at Miami Central.”

Sports Illustrated ranked The Rockets as No. 6 in Florida before this ruling came down.

The report says school administrators have the right to appeal the decision within the next 10 business days.

NBC6 reached out to the school board and are waiting on a statement.
