Officer Who Died In I-695 Crash Was Off-Duty: Police
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — The police officer who died this weekend in an Interstate 695 crash was off-duty, Patch confirmed Wednesday.
The Maryland State Police identified the victim as 36-year-old Anthony Gregory Ward of Rosedale.
The Baltimore Police Department said Ward was an active member of the city’s SWAT unit.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
“This is a terrible loss for Officer Ward’s family, his team members and the Baltimore Police Department on the whole,” Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said in a press release. “My heart goes out to his loved ones. The Department extends its support and sympathies to them at this time.”

State police said the fatal crash happened Saturday around 4:30 p.m. on the inner loop of I-695 before the Jones Falls Expressway.
Troopers said Ward was driving a 2023 GMC Savana van when he changed lanes and ran into the back of a 1989 Ford tow truck.
Medics pronounced Ward dead at the scene, state police said.
“Our deepest condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and the entire community mourning the loss of BPD’s SWAT member, Officer Anthony Ward,” the Baltimore Police Department said on Facebook. “May he rest in peace, and may the memories he’s created with his loved ones be eternal.”

Maryland men’s lacrosse named No. 7 overall seed in NCAA Tournament, will host Princeton in first round
Maryland men’s lacrosse was named the No. 7 overall seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament, it was announced Sunday. As a top-eight seed, the Terps will host Princeton on May 11 at 7:30 p.m.
The Terps convincingly defeated the Tigers, 13-7, on February 24th in College Park. Princeton is on on a four-game winning streak, though, having just won the Ivy League Championship.
Maryland, on the other hand, has endured an up-and-down season and is on a two-game losing streak.
The Terps started the year on a good note, winning their opening four contests over Richmond, Loyola, Syracuse and Princeton.
Maryland’s first loss of the season came on the road against the reigning champions and No. 1 seed Notre Dame. The Terps went on to narrowly escape what would have been a disastrous loss against Brown at home, before falling to Virginia and Michigan.
The Terps responded to the losing streak with three straight conference victories over Penn State, Ohio State and Rutgers. Then, Maryland lost “The Rivalry” to Johns Hopkins in its worst offensive effort of the year, managing just five goals, before getting thrashed by Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals, 19-9.
The winner of Maryland and Princeton will take on the winner of Duke and Utah in the quarterfinals.
BALTIMORE– Expect mostly cloudy skies tonight with patchy areas of fog developing. More showers are possible Monday afternoon.
After a Sunday filled with abundant cloud cover and occasional light rain and showers, we’re looking at more cloudy and cool weather into this evening. Overnight lows will fall into the lower 60s. Some areas of fog are possible where any clearing from the clouds happens overnight. Right now, the fog looks to be patchy in nature.
Monday will be another mainly cloudy and humid day. With an easterly wind, high temperatures will stay mainly in the middle to upper 70s. Some areas west of Baltimore may touch the 80 degree mark.
Expect morning clouds and patchy fog. The afternoon hours will feature additional clouds and the opportunity for a few showers. These showers will be hit or miss, so some neighborhoods will not get wet. Everyone will be rather humid on Monday.
Another weather disturbance will kick off a few more showers and isolated thunderstorms during the day Tuesday. These showers and storms will be scattered, so once again not every neighborhood gets wet. The best chance for showers and storms will be from the late morning into the afternoon and early evening hours. Highs will top out in the upper 70s.
Wednesday will be the warmest and quietest weather day of the week. Expect a mixture of clouds and sunshine with highs in the middle to upper 80s.
Another potent disturbance will be entering the area Wednesday night into Thursday bringing additional showers and thunderstorms. Right now, the biggest concern from these showers and storms will be heavy downpours from an abundance of humidity. If we do manage to get any sunshine Thursday, we’ll need to be concerned with the potential of strong to severe storms. Right now, confidence is not high right now regarding severe storms, but we’ll continue to monitor the situation.
Yet another impulse will cross the area on Friday bringing additional showers. The best chance would be during the afternoon and evening hours with highs in the lower 70s.
We will likely have another 50/50 weekend next weekend. Saturday looks like the drier half with partly sunny weather and highs in the upper 60s. More showers will return, especially the second half of Sunday.
BELCAMP, Md. — Maryland State Police are investigating a deadly interstate crash in Harford County involving a bus.
Authorities say it happened around 6 a.m. when troopers from the JFK Memorial Highway Barrack responded to the scene of a single-vehicle bus crash on I-95.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the bus, carrying 24 people, was traveling northbound on I-95 when, for unknown reasons, it lost control and struck a guardrail. One passenger from the bus was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The remaining passengers were transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
All northbound lanes of I-95 at mile marker 77 are closed for the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are urging the drivers to plan alternate routes while the crash investigation continues.
Police say no charges have been filed.
