Maryland Permanently Preserves Twenty-Five Working Farms
3,385 Acres of Farmland Protected Ceaselessly
ANNAPOLIS, MD (October 17, 2022) – The Maryland Board of Public Works authorized 25 new Maryland Agricultural Preservation Basis (MALPF) easements at their assembly on October 12, 2022. These easements will completely protect 3,385 acres of prime farmland in Baltimore, Caroline, Carroll, Dorchester, Frederick, Kent, Talbot, Washington, and Wicomico counties for an funding of greater than $13.6 million.
“I’m grateful for the farmers that volunteer to promote and extinguish their improvement rights via the MALPF program,” mentioned Agriculture Secretary Joe Bartenfelder. “These farms will now be preserved in perpetuity, thereby supporting the setting and meals safety for the residents of Maryland.”

MALPF was established in 1977 as a part of the Maryland Division of Agriculture. MALPF purchases agricultural preservation easements from prepared farmers that perpetually protects prime farmland and woodland.
