Kentucky football: Mark Stoops reflects on loss to Georgia Bulldogs
Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops said the Wildcats are far from where they need to be and must improve all phases after a 35-14 loss to Georgia.
LEXINGTON — Kentucky football’s latest attempt to end its SEC losing streaks — eight overall dating to last season, and eight at home going back to September 2023 — takes place tonight at Kroger Field.
UK welcomes Texas to town for the first time.
The two previous meetings in this series were in Austin, Texas, with the Longhorns winning both.

The Wildcats enter tonight’s contest after an open date, which coach Mark Stoops deemed a “productive” week for his program.
“We needed to get some guys healthy and needed to get better, and I feel like we got a lot of work done last week,” he said. “Got guys healthy. Got a little head start on Texas.”
What does Stoops make of the Longhorns, who are ranked 17th in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll and 21st in the AP Top 25?
“We know what you’re getting with Texas: It’s a very good football team, very well coached,” he said. “Ton of respect for coach Sark (Texas’ Steve Sarkisian). I’ve known him for a long time. We’ve gone against each other all the way back to the days out West when I was at Arizona, and he was at USC.
“I’ve always have a ton of respect for him and the way he calls plays.”
Kentucky is 2-3 overall and 0-3 in conference play; UT is 4-2 and 1-1, respectively.
The Wildcats’ last win over a ranked team doubles as their most recent triumph over a league foe: last season’s road upset of then-unbeaten Ole Miss. If the Longhorns are victorious, it will mark their 966th win all time, the fifth most in college football history. (Notre Dame, which is fourth, enters today with 966 victories.)

Kentucky vs Texas will be broadcast nationally on ESPN in Week 8 of the 2025 college football season. Dave Flemming and Brock Osweiler will call the game from the booth at Kroger Field, with Stormy Buonantony reporting from the sidelines. Streaming options for the game include ESPN+, ESPN’s subscription streaming service, and Fubo, which offers a free trial to new subscribers.

Texas 38, Kentucky 10: The most points the Longhorns have allowed in any game this season is 29. Kentucky’s offense, which already struggles to score in even the best of times, likely will find it tough sledding against UT’s stingy bunch, which ranks third nationally in scoring defense (11 points per game). Barring a plethora of Texas turnovers, or multiple momentum-shifting plays by Kentucky’s special teams, it’s hard to see how the hosts pull off the upset. — Ryan Black, The Courier Journal

BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — Kentucky State Police are warning residents in Boyle County and the surrounding communities to be wary of spam jury duty calls.
According to KSP, people are being told they have missed jury duty, and they now have a warrant for their arrest.
They also said people are being asked to scan a barcode and pay a fine.
KSP asks that anyone who receives one of these phone calls hang up.
Anyone who receives a suspicious message is asked to contact authorities or the Office of the Kentucky Attorney General at 502-696-5389 or 888-432-9257.
The Kentucky Humane Society announced plans Oct. 15 for a new Animal and Community Campus that will expand space and services for animals in the commonwealth.
Kentucky Humane Society President and CEO Alisa Gray said the $37 million project, to be built in the 4900 block of Preston Highway, has been in the works since 2021. The organization has raised $21.4 million so far, she said, and is seeking $5 million in additional funding from the Kentucky legislature for the project.
Gray hopes to raise the remaining $10.6 million needed through the organization’s “ALL IN” campaign that launched Oct. 15.
Gray said the organization plans to break ground on the new campus in November 2025 and the project is estimated to take around 16-18 months to complete.
The new center, which will include 54,000 square feet of indoor space and 7,000 square feet of a covered outdoor area, will expand dog and cat housing by 30%. Gray said the organization also aims to increase spay and neuter surgeries they’re able to provide annually.
The new campus will also bring back the previously-closed Healthy Pets Clinic that provided low-cost, preventable veterinary care to the community.
“There’s a dire need for that. That’s probably one of the greatest needs for animals now, in our state and nationally,” Gray said. “Access to care is very difficult, cost of care for animals is extremely high, probably higher than it’s ever been.”
While the new campus will be in Louisville, Gray said Kentucky Humane Society serves 96 counties throughout Kentucky. The new brick and mortar for a permanent clinic in Louisville will mean the organization will be able to use its CARE-a-van mobile clinic to better serve the wider Kentucky community.
“We try to prioritize underserved areas and our rural Kentucky partners that don’t have access to care, so we’ll be able to serve them more often,” Gray said.
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — The newest member of San Francisco’s Zoo gorilla troop made his official public debut on Wednesday.
Cecil, a 26-year-old silverback western lowland gorilla, comes to San Francisco from the Louisville Zoo in Kentucky.
Zoo keepers describe Cecil as even-tempered, sweet and laid back.
This is the first time he will be leading a family troop and he is getting use to being around females.
Zoologists hope Cecil will be a good mate to the zoo’s three female gorillas.
“We feel like this is a new day for the zoo. And Cecil is kinda the beginning of the new day for the zoo, and such like that. So, we’re really excited to see him get along with the females and hopefully we’ll get some baby gorillas in the next few years,” said zoologist Robbie Graham.

Cecil will be a welcome addition after the San Francisco Zoo’s only male gorilla, Oscar, died unexpectedly in February.
The gorilla exhibit reopens to the public this weekend.
