Three small quakes recorded Monday night in west Tennessee, western Kentucky

Three small earthquakes were recorded in west Tennessee and western Kentucky Monday night.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey at the University of Memphis, a magnitude 2.3 quake was reported at 8:49 pm in Lake County, near Ridgely, 25 miles southwest of Union City, and 85 miles northeast of Memphis.

At 9:45 pm, a 3.0 magnitude tremor was recorded in McLean County, near Calhoun, 19 miles southwest of Owensboro, and 100 miles northwest of Nashville.

Then at 9:49 pm, a 2.4 magnitude quake was recorded in Hopkins County, 13 miles northeast of Madisonville, 24 miles southwest of Owensboro, and 97 miles northwest of Nashville.

The USGS says a quake of 2.5 is the threshold of humans being able to detect the ground shaking.

As of 11:45 pm Monday night, 19 reports of feeling the McLean County quake had been received by the USGS, one from as far away as Louisville.

Multiple media outlets in Evansville also say they received numerous reports from those feeling the McLean County quake.

Two reports of feeling the Hopkins County quake were received by the USGS from the Calhoun community.

No damage has been reported from these earthquakes.
