Kentucky School for the Blind celebrates three Class of 2022 graduates

The Kentucky College for the Blind (KSB) celebrated its graduating college students on Might 17 at a commencement ceremony held on the faculty. The 2022 KSB graduates are A’Miracle Foard, Justin Goodlett and Leanna Lewis.

A’Miracle Foard

A’Miracle Foard is from Louisville in Jefferson County.  She has been a pupil at KSB since second grade in 2011. She has been lively within the music division, taking part in piano, and choir. Foard additionally was a shared placement pupil at Central Excessive College in Louisville for 3 years. She has been part of the work program whereas at KSB, working at Bussmann’s Bakery, and presently works for the Kentucky College for the Blind Charitable Basis.

This summer season Foard is collaborating within the Perception program at Morehead State College, and within the fall will take programs at Elizabethtown Neighborhood and Technical Faculty. Her dream can be to open her personal enterprise promoting jewellery and crocheted objects.

Foard was awarded the Joseph Kuczwara Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship is introduced by the Kentucky College for the Blind Charitable Basis to a pupil with a constructive perspective, good citizenship, exemplary management and honest service to others. The award is called in honor of Joseph Kuczwara, one of many founders of the Kentucky College for the Blind Charitable Basis. Foard additionally was chosen for the Rotary Membership of Louisville’s Unsung Hero Award.

Justin Goodlett

Justin Goodlett is from Lawrenceburg in Anderson County. He has been a full-time pupil at KSB since 2020. Goodlett was part of the work program whereas at KSB, working with Lynch Landscaping and for 3 years on the Louisville Zoo. He’s planning on working at Kentucky Kingdom this summer season. He additionally has participated within the KSB Weekend Retreat.

After commencement, Goodlett can be shifting to Alabama to attend E.H. Gentry, a full service vocational and academic rehabilitation program serving adults who’re deaf or blind. He’ll be taught job abilities to advertise independence and result in future employment.

Goodlett was awarded one of many two Dr. Franklin Jelsma “To See Via Love” award. Offered by the Kentucky College for the Blind Charitable Basis, the $500 scholarship award is given to a pupil for an impressive work ethic, achievement in neighborhood service and respect for others. The award is called in honor of Dr. Franklin Jelsma, a well-respected pioneer and mentor within the subject of neurosurgery, who believed that by caring about others and dealing laborious, one could make the world a greater place.     

Leanna Lewis

Leanna Lewis is from Lexington in Fayette County. She has been a pupil at KSB since 2018, beginning within the ninth grade. She has been lively at KSB within the music division and has participated in cheerleading, swimming, observe, forensics and the Scouts of America. Lewis has served as a peer tutor and took part within the PATH program by means of the Workplace of Vocational Rehabilitation. She has been part of the work program whereas at KSB, presently working for the Kentucky College for the Blind Charitable Basis.

After commencement, Lewis can be residing in Lexington till she begins research on the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Coaching Heart in Thelma. She plans to work on certifications in childcare and take lessons at Large Sandy Neighborhood Faculty. She would sometime prefer to develop into a social employee. Lewis acquired the second Dr. Franklin Jelsma “To See Via Love” award together with Goodlett.
