Kentucky legend Chris Rodriguez Jr. has breakout game for Washington

The Washington Commanders have struggled all season with a 4-11 record after losing to the New York Jets in Week 16, 30-28.

The Commanders almost did complete the comeback after being down 27-7 at halftime. They answered back with 21 unanswered points, but the Jets hit the game-winning field goal to seal the deal at the end.

One of the reasons why the Commanders were able to make a comeback was due to the breakout game from former Kentucky Wildcats running back Chris Rodriguez Jr., who rushed for 58 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including getting his first-ever NFL career NFL touchdown.

Here is Rodriguez’s second career touchdown against the Jets.

Rodriguez even showed some highlight plays by hurdling over a Jets defender.

Through Rodriguez’s first season in the NFL, he’s rushed for 247 rushing yards and now has two rushing touchdowns after his breakout performance against the Jets.

With it still early in Rodriguez’s NFL career, he has plenty of opportunity to improve along with the whole team. Rodriguez was a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft after playing five seasons at Kentucky.

While in college, Rodriguez rushed for 3,644 rushing yards, 32 rushing touchdowns, and averaged 6.2 yards per carry while at Kentucky. With Rodriguez’s great stats, it was very likely that he would be an NFL Draft pick, and that is what happened.

One question that may be answered soon is whether Ron Rivera will still be the head coach after this season. He has posted a 26-38 while being the coach for the Commanders over the past four years.

With a potential new head coach next season and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy having a second season to implement his offense with the Commanders, the offense could look completely different and Rodriguez could start to have a bigger year next season.
