Group trying to save north Georgia wildlife preserve
BARTOW COUNTY, Ga – A gaggle of Bartow County residents is doing all they will to cease growth from transferring in to a big space of land at the moment getting used for climbing, looking, tenting, and fishing.
In north Bartow County, there are greater than 14,000 acres of land which belongs to the Neel household. For the previous 46 years, the household has leased the land to the Georgia Division of Pure Assets for the Pinelog Wildlife Administration Space.
“There’s extra nature, extra wildlife than you’ve got ever seen in your life, it is all proper right here,” stated Scott Drexler with the Pinelog Preservation Society.
The Neel household has had the land for near a century, and they’re now able to promote it.
The Pinelog Preservation Society needs the state to purchase it to protect the land.
DNR launched a press release to FOX 5 that reads partially:
“At present, the Division of Pure Assets is working arduous to research all alternatives to supply public leisure entry on this property into the longer term.”
If a deal can’t be reached with the state, and the Neel household decides to promote the land to be developed, Bartow County leaders are a 20-year plan that would come with high-density housing, industrial and industrial growth.
The only commissioner may make a last determination on the zoning plan Wednesday.
The plan does name for at the very least 5,000 acres of inexperienced house.
“Inexperienced house might be something that does not have a home on it. So, it is unclear what’s going to occur if DNR would not purchase it,” stated Reece Monroe with the Pinelog Preservation Society.
Fearing warehouses will substitute bushes, the Pinelog Preservation Society began a petition that now has near 14,000 signatures to avoid wasting the land by encouraging the state to purchase as a lot of Pinelog as they will.
“There’s loads of room in Bartow County to construct homes and warehouses on as an alternative of this nook, it is a jewel,” stated Lisa Lipscomb with the Pinelog Preservation Society.
