Monkey spotted in Delaware restaurant, cracks up patrons
A monkey made a surprise appearance in the Texas Roadhouse in Bear on Jan. 4. No, the animal wasn’t on the menu. It dined in the restaurant.
Ruby Tuesday closed a Delaware location last week, a few years after the chain filed for bankruptcy.
Ruby Tuesday located in the Pike Creek Shopping Center at 4700 Limestone Road, closed its doors to the public on Tuesday, Jan. 7, according to Regency Centers, the shopping center’s commercial developer.
The chain filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 2020 after struggling from years of increased competition and in the face of the pandemic, but kept its four Delaware locations open. The casual dining chain emerged from bankruptcy a year later as a much smaller company.
Today, just two Ruby Tuesday locations remain in the First State; in Milford at 945 N. DuPont Blvd. and in Middletown at 474 West Main St.
A Regency Centers spokesperson could not confirm whether a new tenant has signed on to take over the location.
Pike Creek Shopping Center, now home to a handful of fitness centers, Acme, Goldfish Swim School and some chain fast-casual dining spots, is in the process of opening a new gas station and convenience store (no, not a Wawa).
According to New Castle County planning documents, a Dash-In store is undergoing the county’s land use process, featuring a 3,492 square foot shopping center and eight gas pumps located next to the current Edge Fitness off New Linden Hill Road.
The most recent plans were submitted in late November of 2024.

The inaugural Delco Gives raised more than $1.7 million for participating nonprofits. The second annual fundraising drive eclipsed $2.2 million.
“We’re all hopeful that we’ll continue to go higher and higher because really the sky is the limit in terms of how many people can be engaged beyond who have been engaged before to participate in philanthropy for Delaware County nonprofits,” Kellerman said.
Delco Gives usually coincides with a wave of community events and festivities, including Dining Under the Stars in Media. Kellerman said the culminating party is moving indoors this year due to previous weather conditions.
“The location we’re moving it to will be I think very exciting for the community. We are not ready to announce that so be looking for that announcement in the next couple of weeks,” Kellerman said.
Bonus dollars and cash prizes will be awarded to participating nonprofits during Delco Gives.

Initial filings for unemployment benefits in Delaware rose last week compared with the week prior, the U.S. Department of Labor said Jan. 15.
New jobless claims, a proxy for layoffs, increased to 512 in the week ending Jan. 10, up from 390 the week before, the Labor Department said.
U.S. unemployment claims dropped to 198,000 last week, down 9,000 claims from 207,000 the week prior on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Tennessee saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims jumping by 113.5%. New Hampshire, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage drop in new claims, with claims dropping by 31.7%.
