To collect funds and donations for I Support the Girls Delaware, Lunch With a Purpose kicked off its 2023-24 series with a sold-out luncheon at the Clubhouse at Baywood Greens.

Cheryl Mitchell, Lunch With a Purpose/Coastal Delaware director, welcomed attendees back for another year and thanked everyone for the success of the past season. Mitchell introduced Jacqueline Sterbach from What Is Your Voice to talk briefly about a first-time event for that group. The Butterfly Bolt, a walk to support of survivors of domestic violence, will take place Friday, Oct. 6, in Rehoboth Beach. For more information and to support this event, go to whatisyourvoice.org.

The next speaker was Linda Willimer, I Support the Girls affiliate director for Delaware. ISTG is new to Southern Delaware as of 2023 but hit the ground running by collecting undergarments and menstrual products from manufacturers, through community drives and local retail stores. Those donated items were dispensed to people in need, giving dignity to those making tough choices between food purchases and needed products, and allowing girls to attend school every day by providing necessities. ISTG is distributing items to the Shepherd’s Office, Epworth United Methodist Church, the Giving Cellar and others. For more information about ISTG, email istg.delaware@gmail.com.

The luncheon raised $9,000 for ISTG along with an estimated $2,000 worth of in-kind donations. Donations to the Food Bank of Delaware totaled 1,051pounds of food.
