Delaware State University President Dr. Tony Allen Commends Lacrosse Players For Keeping Calm During Georgia Traffic Stop, Search Incident

DOVER, Del. (CBS) — The President of Delaware State College commented on the college’s lacrosse group that was searched by police in Georgia whereas delivering the graduation speech for the graduating class of 2022.

Physician Tony Allen addressed the incident recorded on a pupil’s smartphone on April 20.

The ladies’s lacrosse group was pulled over for a site visitors violation final month when six heavily-armed law enforcement officials searched their luggage.

Delaware State is a traditionally Black faculty and many of the group’s coaches and athletes on the bus had been Black.

The driving force wasn’t ticketed for the supposed site visitors violation. In a fiery speech, Dr. Allen recommended the group for maintaining calm within the face of discrimination.

“Ever since they’ve advised their story this week, thoughtfully and in truth in media shops across the nation, they’ve watched the nation get behind them and encourage them ahead. We must always all be pleased with how they acknowledged the second,” Dr. Allen stated.

He went on to ask the lacrosse college students who had been graduating Saturday to face up.

They got a spherical of applause.

Dr. Allen referred to as them out by title, saying they had been all prepared for “our altering world.”

CBS3’s Siafa Lewis sat down with Dr. Allen to debate the incident on Friday. He says the college is submitting a civil rights grievance over the incident.
