Micah Parsons speaks on dominant Cowboys’ defensive display vs. Browns
CLEVELAND — It was slated to be a dog fight when the Dallas Cowboys met the Cleveland Browns at Huntington Bank Stadium to open the NFL regular season, but the latter got put in a kennel early and often as the former went rabid in their attack, and that is especially true for Micah Parsons and Mike Zimmer’s defense.
The world got its first look at what the unit might be capable of under Zimmer, and against a highly-mobile playmaking quarterback in Deshaun Watson with his stable of weapons — including five-time Pro Bowl receiver Amari Cooper and newly-acquired wideout Jerry Jeudy — wherein Parsons helped lead a brutal onslaught of pressure.
They allowed only one first down in the entire first half and ultimately only 17 points the entire game; and Parsons (agreeing with All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs after the game) says they’re just getting started.
“We didn’t open up the full bag,” said Parsons. ” … I think the sky’s the limit. This is just the beginning.”
The defense was flying around to the point where you have to wonder if American Airlines will give them frequent flier miles for their efforts. From Eric Kendricks to DeMarvion Overshown to DeMarcus Lawrence to Osa Odighizuwa and more, the defensive front was outstanding.
And then came the secondary, who basically shoved Cooper, Jeudy and Elijah Moore into a locker and spun the combination on the lock.
The run defense shined. The coverage shined. The contain on Watson shined.
“We have those rotational pieces and obviously we draft it pretty well, so it looks good and it helps that we can rotate when you’re tired and things like that,” said Parsons of the Cowboys being able to throw waves of talented defenders at teams. … Man, I feel like we could have done more to anybody else.
“Deshaun’s tough. He’s a tough quarterback, bro. He’s hard to get down. He’s scrappy, he’s relentless. He kept getting up, man [but] it was challenging for Cleveland to really dial into the offense.”
The three-time All-Pro pass rusher was lined up in several different spots on Sunday in Cleveland, making it difficult for the Browns to key in on him pre-snap, to resounding success.
He did give praise to Watson for his toughness and grit, though, and in being able to keep Parsons from having what could’ve otherwise been a multi-sack day to begin the season.
“I think I missed two or three [sacks],” said Parsons. “He’s tough. I’m going to have nightmares tonight for sure. I’m supposed to start this year off with [three sacks]. … I don’t think I played to my standard. I’ve gotta finish those plays..”
Parsons says he’s making no excuses and is determined to get back into the lab following this game to try and right that ship for Week 2 — in the home opener against the New Orleans Saints.
“First home game? They’ve got Derek Carr and they just dropped 40, so they’re clicking,” said Parsons. “We’ve gotta hit this lab and get cooking, but the Lion’s coming. Gotta protect the Den. Let’s go.”
The Cowboys owned the longest home win streak in the league before it was derailed by the Green Bay Packers in January, and they’re looking to start a new one, effective Sept. 15.
WEST DALLAS – Loved ones of a 17-year-old girl killed in a shooting over the weekend held a balloon release in her honor.
The high school senior’s family says she was with a group of friends in West Dallas when some sort of fight happened, leading to gunfire.
The teen’s family says she was struck by a stray bullet.
Dallas police didn’t provide any details.

At the Trinity Overlook in West Dallas, there’s a growing memorial for 17-year-old Angela Nino-Herrera, a Dallas ISD senior who was killed in a shooting over the weekend.
Nino-Herrera’s family confirmed to Fox 4 the Hillcrest High School senior was shot and killed early Sunday morning.
Dallas Police showed up at a mother’s door on Sunday after her daughter didn’t come home. Officers responded to a parking lot near Commerce Street and Beckley just after 4 am.
The witness, 19-year-old Rena Garcia, didn’t know Nino-Herrera personally but tells Fox 4 nearly 50 people gathered at the Trinity Outlook the morning of the shooting.
Garcia says she noticed a fight taking place feet away, just before the shooting began.
“They started shooting. They drove down the street and just kept shooting out of the door, out of the window of the car,” said Garcia. “It was multiple guns. Multiple people just shooting. Just anyone and everything they could see. It was terrible.”
One of the bullets hit Nino-Herrera, who later died at the hospital.
On Wednesday, family and friends had a balloon release in the teenager’s honor.

Nino-Herrera’s older sister, Aileen Marie Nino, pleads for the violence to stop.
“It was people being stupid, with guns…” said Marie Nino. “It wasn’t right. That is the least my sister deserves,”
“She had plans. She had hopes. She had dreams,” said the victim’s mother, Marcela Nino.
What’s next:
That witness told police the suspect vehicle was a black Dodge Charger.
Dallas police did not provide clear answers to FOX 4’s questions about potential suspect information or the circumstances that led to the shooting, only saying the investigation is “ongoing.”

The Dallas Cowboys are ramping up their efforts to get familiar with some of the top prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft class. This week, head coach Brian Schottenheimer made the trip to Columbus to check out the high-profile Ohio State Buckeyes Pro Day.
Also in attendance was Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.
The Cowboys have several needs where the Buckeyes star players would fill out the roster, notably at running back, wide receiver, and along the defensive line.

Standout Ohio State prospects who have been linked to Dallas in mock drafts over the past few weeks are wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, and defensive end Jack Sawyer.
With Dallas’ need for a backup quarterback, Will Howard is also an intriguing prospect.

Dallas holds the No. 12 overall pick in the fhe draft which gives them some flexibility. The previously mentioned players are all expected to be available when the Cowboys are on the clock, but they could also trade back to pick up additional draft capital while targeting one of the players on Day 2.

It’s going to be interesting to see how it all plays out, but the Cowboys certainly have a close eye on Ohio State.
The 2025 NFL Draft will be held in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with the first round on Thursday, April 24. Rounds 2 and 3 will be held on Friday, April 25, while the final rounds will play out on Saturday, April 26.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 26 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for his first triple-double in more than three years, helping the New York Knicks defeat the Dallas Mavericks 128-113 on Tuesday night.
OG Anunoby had 35 points, and Josh Hart added 16 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists for his ninth triple-double of the season. New York (45-26) shot 59.6% and won its second straight.
Naji Marshall had a career-high 38 points, and Brandon Williams chipped in 22 points. The Mavericks (35-38) fell for the 10th time in 13 games.

Dallas: A night after shooting 56.3% from the field in their win Monday in Brooklyn, the Mavericks again started hot by making 28 of 43 field goals in the first half. But Dallas was worn down by New York’s depth, getting outscored 60-45 in the second half.
New York: With Mavericks center Anthony Davis (adductor strain) out, Towns went to work, scoring 24 first-half points. The center, who is third in the NBA in double-doubles, posted his first triple-double since Jan. 30, 2022, and helped New York record 40 assists on 59 field goals.
Key moment
Marshall made 13 of 15 first-half field goals and helped Dallas shoot 65.1% and remain even at 68 at halftime.
But the Knicks turned up the defensive intensity in the third quarter, opening with a 7-0 run. The Mavericks made just 4 of 18 field goals, and New York outscored Dallas 30-16 in the third.
