Cowboys fans got their first glance at some of the team’s newest rookies during Saturday’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
While Dallas fell by a 28-23 score, the newcomers captured plenty of attention on social media. Deuce Vaughn and John Stephens Jr. found the end zone during the fourth quarter, while DeMarvion Overshown stood out at multiple spots early in the game.
Here are some of the reactions from Dallas’ first game of the 2023 preseason:
Good for Cowboys WR Jalen Tolbert. Maybe the most improved player on the team gets in end zone for club’s first score of preseason. Continues a strong week for Tolbert, who had a catch-and-run TD on a dig route Thursday in Oxnard.

My main takeaway from the first Cowboys preseason game:
Zack Martin deserves all the money.

Per PFF’s initial review, Deuve Vaughn averaged 5.4 yards AFTER contact per attempt vs. JAX – a game high. #Cowboys

In last year’s preseason opener, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott broke down the team following pregame warmups. Prescott seemed pleased today for a rookie to handle the vocal role, as LB DeMarvion Overshown addressed team. pic.twitter.com/KufafNNF4Q
