Charlamagne defends airline policy saying particularly obese passengers must buy 2nd seat

Radio host Charlamagne tha God praised an upcoming airline policy change on Wednesday, saying obese passengers should consider eating less food if they don’t want to buy a second seat to accommodate their size.
Beginning on Jan. 27, 2026, Southwest Airlines will ditch open seating, having previously had a “pick any seat” policy, allowing customers to purchase tickets in different boarding groups by selecting where they wanted to sit upon boarding the plane.
The airline has also cautioned portly customers “who encroach upon the neighboring seat(s)” to proactively purchase the necessary number of seats prior to travel. Next month, however, such customers “will be required to purchase an additional seat and pay any applicable seat fee at the airport.”
“Why don’t they just make them fly cargo?” Charlamagne asked on “The Breakfast Club” radio show as his crew discussed the upcoming change. “And furthermore, I don’t have a problem at all with this, OK? If you are too big for one seat, then you just got to buy two seats. Don’t act like the plane is doing something to you. You know how big you are!”

“But what if you don’t got the bread to buy another seat, but you fat? You can’t control that,” co-host Jess Hilarious said.
“Well, you shouldn’t have been eating so much bread. You need to stop eating bread. All right? OK. By the way, tall people got to go through this, too! Tall people gotta buy the extra leg-room seats, so it ain’t just fat people that gotta deal with this. If you’re a tall person, you gotta buy extra legroom because you know you need it.”
“I don’t think that this is any wrongdoing of the plane, is what I’m simply saying,” Charlamagne said, going on to mention how stuffing somebody who does not fit well into a seat is not only a disservice to them, but to whomever sits next to them.

He later concluded by telling listeners, “So Southwest is making a push to cut costs, it’s the new year, you should make a push to cut weight, OK? That should be your New Year’s resolution.”

These teams met early in November, and Texas Tech dominated BYU, winning 29-7 in Lubbock.

But there’s much more on the line now, and BYU has extra juice from coach Kalani Sitake turning down Penn State. It took Texas Tech about two quarters in November to adjust to BYU’s physical lines of scrimmage, and if the Cougars can protect the ball, they’ll get this game to the second half. - Texas Tech 31, BYU 10: Quarterback Behren Morton wasn’t quite himself against the Cougars the first time around this season, as he was returning from a multi-week injury. The Red Raiders are the most capable Big 12 team to cause some chaos in the College Football Playoff, and standout defenders Jacob Rodriguez and David Bailey lead the way in Texas Tech’s first-ever Big 12 title. ― Austin Curtright

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police have identified two teenagers killed in a crash on I-295 south in Prince George County.
A 2014 Toyota Camry driven by Cristofer Luna Cortes, 18, of Sandston, ran off the right side of the interstate and struck the back of a disabled tractor-trailer parked on the right emergency shoulder.
Both Cortes and his passenger, Jeimey Alexa Gonzalez-Moralez, 18, died at the scene of the Nov. 25. crash.
The 51-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer has not been cited and the crash remains under investigation.
Police believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

One thing is clear when it comes to the future of West Virginia football — this is going to be built the old school way, for the most part. And no, Rich Rodriguez isn’t going to go full Dabo Swinney and completely neglect the transfer portal (I’m not sure where that narrative comes from), but there will be a heavy emphasis on the high school ranks, as there should be.
“The idea would be if you had a choice to get the same guy player-wise that’s got one year left or four years left, you’re going to take the guy that’s got four years left because he’ll grow in your program,” Rodriguez said on Wednesday. “Now, if the guy that’s got one year left or two years left and is a whole lot better player or is more ready to go right now than the other guy, then you’ve got to take that guy. The ideal thing would be to get 2:1 or 3:1 freshman or JC guys compared to the one-year or two-year guys. It’s probably a lesser cost to get the high school guy because they’re unproven at the college level. The portal guys seem to be more expensive, and you’ve got to pay more to get the true experienced, plug-and-play guy out of the portal.”
WVU took a large freshman class because it had to. They were losing 40-some seniors, and you’re not going to be able to go into the transfer portal and fill a bunch of those vacancies, while addressing the depth at every position. Doing so would put you in a very similar situation to last offseason, where you’re spreading your dollars thin, taking yourself out of the running for top-tier talent in the portal.
The other part of this is this group making up for a very watered-down recruiting class a year ago. Yes, the recruiting staff that’s no longer here did a great job of getting things to the finish line with the majority of the class, but a good chunk of those players either ended up requesting release from their NLI (National Letter of Intent) or entered the transfer portal after spring ball, leaving a small group of freshmen.
Rodriguez isn’t going to sign 40 freshmen every year, mainly because you simply can’t, as there are roster limits in place. This class is going to be the group that truly sets the foundation. If they can hit on 15 to 20 of these kids, the rebuild will be accelerated. That sounds like a small number, but it’s really not. Signing 15 players who have starting potential is really strong for a singular recruiting class.
Rodriguez does plan to add somewhere in he neighborhood of 12-15 transfers in January, but with such a large percentage of the roster being freshmen, some more patience will be required in 2026.
