Steve Sarkisian ‘Really Loves’ This Texas Longhorns Team
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian must have felt like a proud father in multiple ways as Texas trounced UTSA 56-7
Sarkisian got to see his son, Brady, take snaps in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter, an experience the coach will not forget.
“When he got in tonight, I took my headset off and I played dad for about three plays. I just watched my son play football at the University of Texas. That was really awesome,” Sarkisian said.
But Sarkisian also saw another young second-year player step up big when he needed to most. Though Arch Manning is far from related to Sarkisian, the relationship between a coach and quarterback can often be seen as a father-son dynamic. Manning is Sarkisian’s greatest recruiting win, after all, and the quarterback has been molded to become a Texas great. The savior, the future, the one to bring Texas “Back”, all ways that Manning has been characterized. On Saturday it was no longer speculation, Arch had arrived.
“There’s nothing like being in the game and playing in front of 105,000 people,” Sarkisian said. ” (That’s) not the easiest thing to do. So I was really proud of Arch (Manning) and what he’s able to do.”
Manning was hoisted back into the spotlight after an abdomen injury in the second quarter took starting quarterback Quinn Ewers out of the game. The stadium stood in silence after No. 3 was down on the ground, writhing in pain and being tended to by the medical staff.
Quickly, however, the stadium was back to an eruption of noise. No. 16, Arch Manning, had entered the game and made an early statement. On a bootleg, Manning used his legs to create space and find an open DeAndre Moore Jr., corralling the pass and doing the rest on the way to a 19-yard touchdown.
Manning’s legs showed out once again on the next drive, taking a QB-keeper 67 yards and hitting nearly 21 MPH as he ran by the UTSA defense. The quarterback ended the game with 276 yards and five touchdowns of total offense, commanding a dynamic offense to a blowout win.
Coach Sarkisian didn’t hold back when talking about the bond he has with his players, and the entire team, during his press conference after the game.
“I really love this team. That’s the first thing I want to say about this team, these guys, I love them because they really love one another,” Sarkisian said. “We work really hard and we push these guys, and we’re demanding of them. At the same time., we have a lot of fun together, there’s so much love. I’ve never hugged so many players in the middle of games and those small moments as a coach that I really appreciate with this group.

Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers Injured vs. UTSA, Will Not Return
AUSTIN – The Texas Longhorns suffered a significant scare on Saturday.
Early in the second quarter vs. UTSA, Longhorns star quarterback Quinn Ewers went down with an injury after completing a long pass to tight end Gunnar Helm.
Ewers was limping his way down the field to get to the line of scrimmage before falling to the turf.
Longhorns medical staff then ran out to examine Ewers, who was helped off of the field shortly after.
After heading to the locker room for further evaluation, Ewers returned to the sidelines in street clothes.
According to head coach Steve Sarkisian after the conclusion of the first half, Ewers has apparently suffered a strained abdomen. He will not return.
Before going own, Ewers was off to a great start for the Horns, completing 14 of 16 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns with one pick. He also ran once for seven yards.
In relief of Ewers, redshirt freshman backup QB Arch Manning came into the game, and immediately put the Horns into the end zone with a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore – the first touchdown catch of Moore’s career. On the next possession, Manning scored again on a 67-yard touchdown run.
Heading into the game, Ewers was the betting favorite for the Heisman Trophy following the Longhorns’ domination of Michigan in Week 2. He had completed 44 of 63 passes for 506 yards and six scores, with a 165.6 QB rating before Saturday’s matchup
Manning will lead the offense for the remainder of the game, in what will be his first meaningful game action since arriving at the 40 Acres.

Austin man who planted multiple pipe bombs in WilCo pleads guilty to arson
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas – An Austin man who was accused of planting multiple pipe bombs around Williamson County pleaded guilty to arson.
According to the Williamson County District Attorney’s Office, on Sept. 13, 61-year-old Michael Myers pleaded guilty to arson causing bodily injury.
The DA’s office said the arson was motivated by Myers’ son dating a woman he did not approve of. Myers believed the woman and her family were stealing his son away from him.
Bomb squad detonates suspicious device found in yard in Georgetown
In 2021, the victim’s family noticed strange occurrences around their property. They found superglue on locks, sabotaged lawn equipment and a sabotaged vehicle.
In January 2022, a pipe bomb exploded in the victim’s van as the victim and his wife were driving in Williamson County. The driver suffered serious injuries.
The next month, the victim’s son found a pipe bomb with a partially burned fuse in his backyard in Georgetown.
In late 2022, officers found a third pipe bomb prepared by Myers, along with grenades at his home.
Throughout the investigation, officials believed Myers was responsible for the bomb exploding in the victim’s car.
“Arson and explosive cases are legally very difficult cases to prove. I want to thank our prosecutors Eddie Wilkinson and Jason Jorgens for their determination and hard work in putting this case together along with our law enforcement partners. Terroristic and dangerous acts will not be tolerated in Williamson County, and I am proud of the work to see that Myers cannot harm anyone again in Williamson County,” said Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick.
Myers was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
