Numerous people gather over Memorial Day weekend to watch the Augusta Air show
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Another Augusta Air Show is in the books with performances from the Growler team, the Navy Legacy Flight, the Remax Parachute team, the F-22 Raptor Demo team and many more.
The show over Memorial Day weekend also helps honor those who have served.
The rain didn’t stop people from coming out to enjoy the show either.
People even gathered outside of where the main event was held and were sitting on top of their cars, setting up chairs and pulling out their binoculars to watch the planes fly by.
Planes flying across the sky with a sound so loud, you can’t help but watch in awe.
“They kind of encourage you to get ear muffs on the way in, we didn’t hear that so we let it go. But it was great, a great sound it really shook you to your core,” said Tucker Strane, who attended the show.
Planes flipping, turning and showing all kinds of skills for people who were following along from land.
“It’s really cool being out here on the runway. That’s where we’re standing right on. It’s fantastic, really loud plans and a lot of fun,” said Dylan Scott, who attended the show.
Some even traveled in from out state for the show.
“We’re here from Auburn, Alabama. We’re big fans of even aerospace in general. Scott is a pilot, I’m an aerospace engineer and he just likes jets,” said Strane.
And they’re all making memories that’ll last a lifetime.
“My little brother is an enthusiast with military planes and so when we saw the show I just thought it would be a great idea to come and bring him and give him an experience of a lifetime,” said the Scarborhoh family.
Even creating new interests.
“I can say that at first I wasn’t too enthusiastic because I had to make the drive here I wasn’t necessarily into planes myself but its like you said, experiencing it first hand really sparked my interest with it,” they said.
Many making plans to come back next year.
“Hopefully it’ll be a little cooler, yeah, and not raining,” said Scott.
The air-dot show is part of a traveling performance and if you miss them Sunday you can see them October 26 and 27th in Atlanta.

Augusta Regional Airport hosts drone camp for students
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Students showcased drones they built during a two-week summer camp at Augusta Regional Airport on Friday.
12 junior and high school students attended the camp, where they learned to fly and build drones designed to help others.
Anderson Puryear, a student, said the camp focused on delivering small medical supplies.
“It was focused on delivering small medical supplies like an EPI pen or glucose packet for like diabetics and for people with allergies in need in the real world that could obviously help save lives, and if people are like in a place in a boat or like in the desert or in the forest where they can’t easily access those supplies it can save their lives,” Puryear said.
The airport partnered with Georgia Tech, state troopers and the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Department for the Air Edu Summer Camp.
