Investigators seek information on June homicide in Augusta


AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is requesting witnesses or anyone with information to come forward regarding a June homicide.

Elias Jkhael Delk, 28, was murdered on June 15 at Dollar General, 1710 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to the sheriff’s office.

Coroner Mark Bowen says Delk appeared to have died from multiple blunt-force trauma.

Deputies responded to the 1700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. around 4:45 a.m. to investigate a suspicious situation.

Bowen says he was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:45 a.m.

Crime across the region

Communities large and small have been affected on both sides of the Savannah River, but as the largest city in the region, Augusta has been hit especially hard.

The death is among the latest in an outbreak of deadly violence that’s claimed more than 150 lives across the CSRA in a little over two years.

Woman found shot dead on Dan Bowles Road in Augusta


AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A woman was found shot dead in Augusta, the latest victim in a two-year outbreak of deadly crime that’s claimed more than 170 lives across the CSRA.

She was found with at least one gunshot wound, lying in the 200 block of Dan Bowles Road, according to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.

The woman was pronounced dead at 8 p.m. Friday and an autopsy has been scheduled.

The shooting comes amid an outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed more than 170 lives in a little over two years across the CSRA.

The crime outbreak has affected communities large and small, but as the biggest city in the region, Augusta has been hit especially hard.

Authorities have blamed much of the problem on gangs.

Shots fired outside of Laney, Westside football game


AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – According to Westside and Laney high school coaches, there was a shooting outside of the Lucy C. Laney stadium during the game on Friday night.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to the area of Augusta Court and Blounts Avenue for multiple gun shots near the Laney High School Football Field where a game was being played.

Both coaches say their teams are okay.

Friday was the first game of the football season.

The sheriff’s office says there have no victims located.

While on scene, deputies found cartridge casings and property damage.

A news 12 crew on scene says there are bullet holes along a nearby apartment complex.

Deputies say at this time, it appears all the gun shots fired occurred outside the stadium.

Details are limited at this time. We are working to learn more about the incident.

This isn’t the first time a shooting happened outside of this stadium. In Sept. 2022, two people have been arrested in connection to “shots fired” at Lucy C. Laney Football Stadium.

Truck crashes through signs blocking Whiskey Road brick wall


AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A truck crashed through the Whiskey Road brick wall early Friday morning.

Viewers sent us pictures of the accident that happened around 8 a.m.

The truck involved is an ALSCO Linen and Uniform Rental Services.

Officials say the driver did crash through the signs blocking the wall and the wall itself.
