Draining of Augusta Canal makes way for work to be done

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – There was only a hint of water left within the Augusta Canal on Friday.

The canal was drained to let metropolis utility and water employees full some work, however the greatest undertaking is from Georgia Energy. The electrical firm has a substation close to the Butt Memorial Bridge, and employees want to finish some wiring close to the canal.

In the meantime, tour boat operators are taking the chance to get the vessels inspected by the Coast Guard, as mandated each 5 years.

The canal needs to be refilled by mid-March.
