Community remembers 1970 Augusta Riot amid DOJ investigation
The outcry started with the beating dying of Black teenager, Charles Oatman. Oatman by accident shot and killed his 5-year-old niece. He was despatched to jail and later died. His physique was discovered with cigarette burns, gashes and different accidents. In a requirement for solutions, demonstrators confronted off with police within the streets of Augusta. This introduced the town into the nationwide highlight. The riots resulted in deaths, accidents and intensive property injury.
