Following shooting death of rapper Takeoff, Atlanta pastor calls for action against crime


ATLANTA — A video of a widely known Atlanta pastor calling younger Black males to the altar throughout a church service goes viral.

Pastor Jamal Bryant issued a name to motion throughout Sunday’s church service at his New Start Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia.

“At this time, I wish to pray a hedge fence of safety for our younger Black males on this neighborhood. I wish to ask all of our younger Black males to come back to the altar, Black males,” stated Pastor Jamal Bryant.

The video is now going viral on social media. Bryant wished all younger Black males beneath 20 years previous within the sanctuary to come back to the altar.

Bryant held the highly effective second through the center of service. Bryant stated the prayer was wanted. “I’m afraid that this era is adjusting to a tradition of violence with no redress. This summer time and this fall, we misplaced six rappers to gun violence,” stated Bryant.

Bryant spoke with Channel 2′s Larry Spruill about the latest high-profile homicide of Rapper ‘Takeoff’ from Atlanta’s music group ‘Migos.’ Takeoff was shot and killed in Houston.

“But, we surprise why our younger persons are beneath misery, anxiousness, beneath despair, as a result of all the individuals they give the impression of being as much as at the moment are falling beneath zero,” stated Bryant.

Within the video, Bryant praised the younger males on the altar and stated, “Y’all higher shout for these younger males. Come on, you higher shout for these enterprise leaders. Would you open up your younger males? These younger males are going to vary the world.”

However Bryant didn’t simply cease with younger males. He stated, “Now I would like all Black males to come back to the altar and encompass our boys.”

Bryant stated the church has to behave now. “I would like New Start to actually paved the way,” he stated.

Bryant stated the gun violence has invaded our nation and metropolis. Sure, he believes within the energy of prayer, however he stated we will’t cease there. “I imagine that prayer works, however Fredrick Douglas stated I bought extra prayers answered, after I bought my off my knees. I feel prayer is the start, however an actionable executable plan has to come back behind it.”

Frankie Mulinix brings Butoh dance to Atlanta


Atlanta’s dance scene is vibrant and eclectic, and we are honored to highlight some of the many local dancers who move us with their movements in our ongoing series “Speaking of Dance.”

This edition highlights Atlanta performer, Frankie Mulinix, the founder and artistic director of Burning Bones Physical Theatre. She specializes in the evocative Butoh, a 1950s-era Japanese dance-theater art form that blends German expressionism, mime, and European philosophy to explore taboo subjects through dance.

For Mulinix, discovering Butoh during her undergraduate studies was transformative. “My body said, this is home,” she shared.

As an artist-in-residence at Windmill Arts, Mulinix is dedicated to building Atlanta’s Butoh community from the ground up, educating audiences about its history and global significance. Her work aims to transform emotion into experience, creating visceral performances that resonate deeply with performers and audiences alike.
