Atlanta officer requests murder case be moved to federal court

ATLANTA – A retired Atlanta Police Division officer indicted for a 2019 capturing throughout an FBI raid has requested his case be moved to federal courtroom. 

Sung Kim, a 26-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Division, shot and killed 21-year-old Jimmy Atchison in 2019 throughout a federal raid of a northwest Atlanta house advanced, based on an indictment charging him with felony homicide and involuntary manslaughter. Atchison’s household stated he was unarmed and surrendering inside a closet when he was fatally shot.

Kim stated Atchison made a threatening transfer as if he had a weapon. Investigators decided Atchison was unarmed.

Kim’s legal professional, Don Samuel, stated in courtroom paperwork that Kim was working with the FBI’s Atlanta Metropolitan Main Offender Process Power.

“In any respect related occasions, Kim was appearing underneath colour of federal regulation, pursuant to his deputation as a member of the FBI AMMO Process Power,” Samuel wrote in a movement.

Atchison died on Jan. 22, 2019, when job drive members have been attempting to arrest him on theft fees. He ran away by one house advanced and into one other, based on regulation enforcement. In his movement, Samuel wrote after Kim instructed Atchison to not transfer after discovering him hiding within the closet.
