Arkansas sweeps Michigan at Barnhill

Taylor Head put up a double-double with a match-high 17 kills to go with 11 digs to help No. 21 Arkansas volleyball claim a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-23) win over Michigan in the final match of the Woo Pig Invitational on Sunday at Barnhill Arena.
Head, a 5-10 senior outside hitter, hit .471 with 17 kills and just one error in 34 attempts. Jill Gillen chipped in 15 kills for the Razorbacks (4-2), who were playing their fourth match in five days.
Arkansas led most of the first two sets, but had to work to close out the match as Michigan (1-4) turned a 15-14 deficit into a 21-18 advantage in the third set. The Razorbacks pulled back to a 23-23 tie and scored the final two points on a kill by Head, while Maggie Cartwright and Sania Petties combined on the block to close out the match.
Setter Hannah Hogue also dished out 34 assists and libero Courtney Jackson finished with a match-high 16 digs for Arkansas. The Razorbacks hit .295 as a team while holding Michigan to just .152.
The Razorbacks hit the road next weekend to play in the University Plaza Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky. Arkansas takes on College of Charleston and host Western Kentucky on Friday and Troy on Saturday. Arkansas won’t return to Barnhill Arena until Sept. 22 when it opens SEC play against South Carolina.
