What Kane Wommack said about Alabama's cornerbacks

The offseason saw some major departures at cornerback for Alabama football. Terrion Arnold and Kool-Aid McKinstry are both off to the NFL Draft, while backup Trey Amos opted to transfer to Ole Miss.

Before retiring, head coach Nick Saban brought in Southern Cal transfer Domani Jackson to help out at corner. Jackson remained at Alabama following Saban’s departure, and earned praise from new defensive coordinator Kane Wommack on Wednesday.

“Domani has experience, and most of those things carry over from one university to another, one scheme to another, but also learning some of the cultural things that we’re doing here, and we’re all learning those things under coach (Kalen) DeBoer,” Wommack said, “There’s certainly some staples and standards that have been here for the last 17 years that we’ve carried as well. He’s learning those things, but the experience level is certainly going to be able to help.”

Jackson was a five-star prospect out of high school. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound junior had 32 tackles and three pass breakups for the Trojans last season.

Wommack also mentioned another returning member of the Crimson Tide.

“Jahlil Hurley has been here for a number of years and has a tremendous work ethic,” Wommack said. “I’ve been so impressed with him through the Fourth Quarter Program and the things that he’s done, just to elevate himself into a position to go compete for a job.”

Hurley redshirted last season with the Crimson Tide. He came to Alabama as a four-star prospect.

Alabama continues spring practice on Friday. Spring ball wraps up April 13, with the annual A-Day game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
