Man rescued from Alabama’s Intracoastal Waterway hours after wrecking boat near Bayou La Batre

A Fairhope man was rescued three hours after he crashed his boat in south Alabama on Saturday.

The Alabama Legislation Enforcement Company mentioned 53-year-old Kevin Olmstead was working a Ranger Bay Heart Console when he was concerned within the single-vessel crash about 3:30 p.m. The boat was discovered grounded and unoccupied in Portersville Bay close to Bayou La Batre.

ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division instantly responded and launched a seek for Olmstead, mentioned Trooper Sgt. Jeremy Burkett.

Troopers, with the assistance of a Good Samaritan, discovered Olmstead about 7:30 p.m. Authorities mentioned he was hanging on to Channel Marker 34 within the Intracoastal Waterway.

A rescue swimmer with the U.S. Coast Guard performed first support as Olmstead was transported again to shore on board a Marine Patrol Vessel. As soon as on shore, Olmstead was airlifted to College Hospital in Cell for indicators and signs of hypothermia.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Alabama Marine Sources, Cell County Sheriff’s Flotilla, Daphne Search and Rescue assisted ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division within the search and rescue efforts.
