PAWLET, Vt. (WCAX) – Police are investigating a triple homicide in southern Vermont. Vermont State Police have not yet released any details about the deaths, but WCAX News has confirmed through multiple sources that three members of a family were killed.

This is still officially a suspicious death investigation and police have not released the victims’ names, but all around the small town people seem to have heard about this tragedy.

It happened early Sunday morning inside a home on Route 133 in Pawlet. We’re told the victims were Brian Crossman, a Pawlet select board member, his wife, Erica Crossman, and a minor child.

Troopers say they will not confirm any details about what happened until the state medical examiner completes autopsies on the victims.

At this point, investigators have made no mention of potential suspects or any arrests in the case, but sources tell WCAX that police have identified a person of interest who is a relative of the victims. Officially, police have only said they believe this was an isolated event with no identified threat to the community.

Most people I spoke with on Monday did not want to go on camera and neighbors said they were rattled by the incident.

“It’s very hard to comprehend. It just hasn’t sunk in. We just visited the family three nights before the deaths,” next-door neighbor Oliver Ihasz said.

“We went down there about eight o’clock in the evening, on Thursday evening to introduce ourselves for the first time. I love them, I told my husband right away. They made a great couple,” next-door neighbor Ellen Ihasz said.

We spoke with one member of the family who said they want to thank everyone for all the support. They tell us they have heard a lot of different rumors and they just want people to respect their privacy.

Again, we are still awaiting an official update on the investigation. State police are waiting for the medical examiner to positively identify the victims and determine the cause and manner of death.

Vermont State Police are investigating the suspicious deaths of three people whose bodies were found Sunday at a home in the Rutland County town of Pawlet.

State police say they received a call reporting a suspicious person early Sunday morning, with the subsequent investigation leading troopers to a residence on Vermont Route 133, where the bodies were ultimately discovered.

Little other information has been released, as police caution that the investigation is in its early stages, but investigators do believe at this point that this was an isolated event, and there’s no identified threat to the community.

Detectives are canvassing the area and conducting interviews while the crime scene search team processes the location, according to police.

The bodies will be taken to the chief medical examiner’s office in Burlington for autopsies to determine the cause and manner of their deaths. Names will be released following confirmation of identities and notification of relatives, police said.

PAWLET, V.T. (WNYT) – Vermont State Police are investigating a triple homicide at the intersection of Vermont Route 133 and Kelley Hill Road.

Major Daniel Trudeau of Vermont State Police said they received multiple 911 calls around 3:45 Sunday morning with one call reporting a suspicious person with blood on him near a home.

“One was a 911 call, describing a male person that they saw with some blood on them. And then, another call came in shortly thereafter, and it was actually that same person that had some blood on the clothing,” Trudeau said.

Then police told NewsChannel 13 that the person with blood on him called 911 and gave information about dead people inside the home he was staying at. Police then responded to the home on Route 133 and began their search.

“They searched through the house. So, they did find, some deceased victims in the house,” said Trudeau.

Police confirmed Sunday night that they found three deceased bodies when they entered the home.

Trudeau said police have detained the man but have not arrested or charged him yet.

“We still have him detained, still chatting with him, trying to get some information,” Trudeau said.

Investigators are using the Pawlet Volunteer Fire House as a base camp for the investigation due to its proximity to the crime scene.

“We have a search warrant for the house. The bodies that will be removed tonight and will be brought to the office of the chief medical examiner for autopsy,” said Trudeau.

The deceased have not been identified at this time.

Police also said that they believe this was an isolated event with no identified threat to the community.
