Stuck in Vermont: Youths compete in a turkey calling contest in Castleton

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The sixteenth annual Bart Jacob Memorial Youth Turkey Calling Contest was held at Kehoe Conservation Camp in Castleton final Saturday.

Eighteen youths between the ages of two and 17 competed, utilizing units to yelp, cluck and purr like a feminine turkey. The occasion was sponsored by the Oxbow Mountain 4-H Capturing Sports activities Membership and the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Division.

Seven Days’ Eva Sollberger met a number of the rivals and bought a lesson in turkey calls.
