CT man dies after being pulled from water at Rhode Island beach

A Farmington man died after being pulled from the water at a beach in Rhode Island, police said.

Lifeguards pulled Frank Sievel, 74, from the water at Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly on Friday, according to the Westerly Police Department.

Sievel was unresponsive when he was pulled from the water at about 12:40 p.m., and lifeguards began lifesaving measures right away, police said.

Sievel was taken to nearby Westerly Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Westerly police Chief Paul Gingerella.

It had not yet been determined whether Sievel drowned or suffered a medical emergency, Gingeralla said.
