Pittsburgh Steelers lose promising offensive tackle for several weeks with foot injury
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without offensive tackle Dylan Cook for several weeks with a foot injury, ESPN first reported. Cook was seen in a boot following the team’s game against the Buffalo Bills and did not practice the entire week. He missed the final preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
Cook confirmed to PennLive that he would miss time with the injury on Wednesday. Now, that is seemingly confirmed as several weeks, which means Cook is a prime candidate to go on injured reserve to start the campaign.
The Steelers’ fourth tackle, Cook will likely be designated to return from injured reserve on cut-down day, meaning he will not have to be on the initial 53-man roster. That is a new rule created by the NFL this season, and each team can place two places on injured reserve and designate them to return. Cook would have to miss at least four weeks if that is the path the Steelers take.
As for the tackle position, this is another injury to that room for the Steelers. Troy Fautanu has an MCL sprain, and Broderick Jones is bothered by his elbow. Pittsburgh could look outside the organization to add someone to the offensive line, whether at backup center or tackle, to help with the injury issues. Regardless, Cook is someone who can play four spots and losing him hurts the Steelers’ depth across the board.

Jaguars Release Former Steelers WR
PITTSBURGH — Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Denzel Mims is back on the free agent market after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Mims signed with the Jaguars after being released by the Steelers this summer. He spent most of last season in Pittsburgh on the practice squad and returned this spring for Organized Team Activities and minicamp. He was then waived prior to training camp as the team allowed him to look for another opportunity before the season.
Mims, 26, was the New York Jets’ second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but has struggled to remain on a roster in the NFL. He played 30 games over three seasons for New York, catching 42 passes for 676 yards before being released. He’s since spent time in Pittsburgh, Detroit with the Lions, and Jacksonville.
The Baylor standout is hard to miss on the field, standing 6-foot-3, 207 pounds. After two 1,000-yard seasons in college, he finished his career with 2,925 yards and 28 touchdowns. He then stole the show at the NFL Combine by running a 4.39 40-yard dash. But ultimately, despite having some of the best physical attributes of his draft class, he has yet to find a home where he can develop into a contributor.
As for the Steelers, they’re continuing to try and find their best group of wide receivers. Coming into the offseason, Mims was believed to have an opportunity to make Pittsburgh’s roster, but didn’t work out early. Now, the Steelers are sifting through names like Dez Fitzpatrick, Scotty Miller and Quez Watkins to try and decide the end of their depth chart.
They haven’t ruled out a trade for Brandon Aiyuk, and could look at acquire another name with roster cuts coming soon. However, a return for Mims is unlikely after the Steelers moved on before camp.

Once on scene, first responders found two men hurt. One had a stab wound to his abdomen, and the other was cut in the wrist/arm area. Both were taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Crews begin work in Pittsburgh’s Chartiers neighborhood to calm traffic
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The City of Pittsburgh is beginning work in the Chartiers neighborhood to calm traffic.
The plan involves multiple measures spanning multiple streets.
The work to slow drivers down is already beginning on Chartiers Avenue. There are now speed tables on parts of the road, which were installed this week.
Crews are expected to come in next week to Chartiers Avenue and put up roadway markings on the speed tables and signage.
Jim Cermak is keeping the shirt-pressing alive at Quality Dry Cleaners nearby.
“I’m the second owner. I bought it off the original owner,” he said.
He’s owned the 64-year-old shop since 1997. Cermak’s seen a lot, and some of it is “pressing” him.
“[I’ve seen] people running through red lights, speeding, blowing horns,” he said.
And if you think his gripes are just limited to the street out his window, you’d be wrong.
“It makes me mad when people drive through my driveway,” he said. “I don’t want anyone to get hit.”
These concerns on Chartiers Avenue are prompting the City of Pittsburgh to do some traffic calming. A study found 89% of drivers on Chartiers go over the 25-mile-an-hour speed limit.
“If you stand here for five minutes, you’ll see that,” Cermak said.
The City says Main Street will have some painted bump-outs as well as what it calls a pedestrian refuge on Suter Street while it adds to the one on Middletown Road.
“I think it’s a positive thing,” neighbor Krystal Pate said. “There are a lot of children and residents in the area, so it’s best that people slow down.”
It’s all expected to improve pedestrian safety, which is important with a school nearby.
Cermak hopes it brings more to the area surrounding the business he’s owned for nearly 30 years.
“We own good thoroughfare from Kennedy down to Pittsburgh in the morning and the evenings,” Cermak said. “There’s plenty of room for growth here.”
