Pittsburgh Public Schools enacts freezes amid state budget impasse
22,000 new seats are coming to Acrisure Stadium over the next two years.
The Sports and Exhibition Authority has approved the first phase of seat replacements at the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers on the city’s North Shore.
That first phase of seat replacement will include 22,000 seats that have been in place since the stadium was built and opened in 2001.
The Sports and Exhibition Authority said there have been multiple issues reported with some seats, including broken bolts and rusting base plates.
The first phase of seats being replaced will cost a little over $6 million.
Nearly all of the stadiums seats will be replaced by 2028 for a total of cost of nearly $18 million.
The new seats for Acrisure Stadium will be made by Hussey Seating Company, a Maine-based company, and the seats will come with a 10-year warranty.
The current seats that are being replaced are expected to be sold through a distributor, according to KDKA’s news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Pittsburgh Steelers remain at the center of the wide receiver trade conversation. With Calvin Austin nursing a shoulder injury, that chatter has only come more often and grown louder.
As far back as May, the Steelers have been linked to one receiver in particular: Chris Olave of the New Orleans Saints. It was reported in the middle of May that the Steelers reached out about a potential trade for the 1,000-yard receiver, but the Saints turned Pittsburgh away. Now, it is being reported that the Steelers called the Saints again, but for a different receiver.
“Source: The Steelers reached out to the Saints during the bye week to take their temperature on WR Rashid Shaheed,” Andrew Fillipponi reports on X. “Who will be a [free agent] at the end of the year. Big play WR and return man. Trades are being made in the NFL left and right.”
Shaheed is coming off a game in which he had an 88-yard touchdown in a win over the New York Giants. He’ll be a name that many teams call about, as he is in the final year of his contract and the Saints are in the running for the top overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. If they don’t plan to keep Shaheed around, or if he doesn’t want to sign with New Orleans long-term, a trade feels likely, whether it is with the Steelers or not.

A Westmoreland County man was charged in connection with the death of another Westmoreland County man after the two fell through a frozen lake in Maryland while riding a utility terrain vehicle earlier this year.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources said in a news release on Tuesday that Ricky A. Wise, of Mount Pleasant, is facing a list of charges — including negligent homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence and homicide with a motor vehicle while impaired — after a UTV crash led to the death of David T. Linsenbigler, of Greensburg.
Maryland authorities said the 59-year-old Wise was driving a Polaris RZR XP 1000 with the 58-year-old Linsenbigler on Deep Creek Lake on Feb. 22 when the vehicle fell through the ice beneath the Glendale Bridge. When first responders arrived, they found Wise had escaped the water, but Linsenbigler was trapped in the submerged wreckage.
The Greensburg man was rescued and taken to a hospital in West Virginia, where he died a day later, officials said. The Mount Pleasant man was taken to a local hospital and treated for hypothermia, according to the news release, which added that he was released a day later.
Investigators said, according to the news release, that Wise consumed alcoholic beverages before getting on the UTV on the day of the crash. He allegedly had a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit in Maryland of 0.08 percent.
Wise was charged by summons and is scheduled to stand trial in Garrett County on Oct. 7, authorities said. If convicted, he faces more than 12 years behind bars and nearly $17,000 in fines.
The news release said only snowmobiles are allowed on Deep Creek Lake.
