Brockton High WR Cam Monteiro heading to University of Pittsburgh
BROCKTON – The city of champions is bursting with pride for one of their own. Brockton High junior Cam Monteiro has signed his letter of intent, to play wide receiver for the Pitt Panthers at the University of Pittsburgh.
“It’s a dream come true. Playing as a kid I always knew I wanted to play at the highest level. Here I am committing to Division 1 college,” the 18-year-old said.
It wasn’t an easy decision, seeing that the Division 1 offer came alongside 14 others.
“He goes, ‘you know what dad? This feels like home. A mix between Boston, Brockton, and Fall River.’ He just felt really comfortable. They’re right there with a professional team, the coaches are great,” said his father, Jose Monteiro.
Whether on the football field, basketball court, or in life, Cameron’s loudest cheerleaders are his five older siblings.
“He doesn’t complain. He’s so solemn, so humble. He’s just a great kid,” mom Renee added.
And as he looks ahead to the future, Cam humbly holds on to his roots. He thinks about what this means to kids in Brockton classrooms.
“I’m just doing it for the younger kids. I want to show them like you can stay in Brockton and your dream could come true. You can do it here,” he said proudly.
Cam hasn’t only been putting in the hours on the field – but in the classroom as well. The junior has enough credits to finish high school early. By January he’ll be in Pittsburgh, enrolled, and working out with his team.

Man charged with raping 93-year-old Pittsburgh woman deemed legally competent for hearing
A Pittsburgh man accused of raping a 93-year-old woman last year plans to plead not guilty.
Ronny Hough’s hearing Tuesday was postponed. His attorney says they got the results of his mental evaluation too late to review.
Hough was deemed legally competent for a hearing.
Hough is accused of following the elderly woman home after she saw a play in Downtown Pittsburgh. Police say he followed her onto a PRT bus then broke into her Troy Hill home and beat and raped her.
Hough is a registered sex offender from another incident. Six years ago, he assaulted a child under the age of 13.
He’ll be back in court at the end of January.

Pittsburgh Steelers likely to lose star running back to new team
The Pittsburgh Steelers seem likely to let running back Najee Harris walk this offseason, according to Steelers insider Gerry Dulac. Harris had his fifth-year option declined in May, and the team seems set to move on and make Jaylen Warren the starter. With that in mind, the team will have to explore other options to fill out the depth chart behind him, and with a deep running back class, that could be the move.
Harris, on the other hand, has not given his NFL future much thought, but it does not seem likely he will be back in Pittsburgh.
“I haven’t given that much thought at all,” Harris said
Harris had just six carries for 17 yards on Saturday. With the Steelers, he has put up four straight 1000-yard seasons since he was drafted out of Alabama. He is the only player to do that during the span.
Harris played every single game over those four years, becoming a bastion of health and consistency for the Steelers even through some muddy years they faced. However, his efficiency never followed, but a lot of that was due to scheme and poor offensive line play that never got better over the tenure.

Steelers not planning on any move involving Mike Tomlin, report says
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are not planning on any move involving head coach Mike Tomlin, according to a report.
According to KDKA-TV Steelers Insider Gerry Dulac, who cited team sources, says the Steelers are “not planning to make any move” involving Tomlin, despite widespread public outcry in the wake of the team’s postseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
The Steelers trailed early on Saturday night in Baltimore, losing the Wild Card matchup 28-14.
Pittsburgh lost its last four regular season games after starting the season 10-3 and have now lost six straight playoff games.
In those six playoff losses, the team has been collectively outscored 66-0 in the first quarter of those defeats at the hands of New England, Jacksonville, Cleveland, Kansas City, Buffalo, and Baltimore.
Tomlin just completed his 18th season with the Steelers, the longest tenure among NFL coaches.
This past offseason, Tomlin signed a three-year contract extension that runs through the end of the 2027 season.
What will the Steelers roster look like in 2025?
As the Steelers now head into the offseason, a number of questions remain when it comes to their roster composition for the 2025 season, primarily at the quarterback position.
All three quarterbacks on the team’s roster are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents. Whether the team brings back any combination of Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen is unclear.
Wilson made a low amount of $1.2 million with the Steelers this year while the Denver Broncos paid a majority of his salary. Several reports suggest Wilson could command a new three-year deal worth as much as $100 million following his season in Pittsburgh.
Outside of the quarterbacks room, Mike Williams, James Daniels, Donte Jackson, Nate Herbig, Elandon Roberts, Najee Harris, Damontae Kazee, Van Jefferson, and Cam Sutton, among others, are all slated to become unrestricted free agents going into the offseason.
The Steelers are set to pick 21st in the opening round of the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay in April.
