West Philadelphia students fundraising for Ukraine through service project

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A gaggle of center schoolers in West Philadelphia are working collectively to assist youngsters residing 1000’s of miles away.

The coed council at Saint Francis de Gross sales College in West Philadelphia took on an additional service undertaking to boost cash for Ukraine.

“As a result of we will, regardless that we’re youngsters, we may help out as effectively,” mentioned eighth grader Stacey Reese, who can be the coed council president.

College students are creating yellow and blue ribbons with sunflowers within the center. The crafts run for $2 every, and the group can present help by pinning the ribbons to their shirts.

“I actually like the concept. I believe that individuals in Ukraine actually need our assist on this time of want, and it is nice we can provide again to our group,” mentioned Reese.

Third-grade instructor and scholar council college advisor Ashley Torelli is overseeing the undertaking.

“They’re positively devoted. They see that it is a privilege to be on scholar council and so they know that they are held to a better normal. And I believe all of them have accepted that responsibility and actually flourished via it,” she mentioned.

Torelli explains that throughout the spring, every grade does a service undertaking. Along with their classroom assignments, the children on scholar council wished to do one thing additional too.

The group has made about $250 thus far off of the ribbons. The proceeds will go to Catholic Aid Providers, which has an ongoing fundraiser for Ukraine.

However past the cash, Torelli says the teachings these youngsters are studying are priceless.
