Pennsylvania county terminates ‘sanctuary county’ designation amid ‘heartache and angst’
A county in western Pennsylvania introduced final week that it has terminated its designation as a “sanctuary county” for unlawful immigrants amid what the county commissioner described as “heartache and angst.”
Butler County, which is a part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan space, was listed on-line previous to Feb. 21 as a location that impedes immigration enforcement insurance policies, based on native ABC affiliate WTAE.
Butler County had been included in a listing compiled by the Middle for Immigration Research that features different cities and counties in Pennsylvania, corresponding to Philadelphia and Allegheny County.

“The sanctuary designation didn’t mirror our intentions or practices,” stated Republican state Rep. Stephenie Scialabba, who led the motion to take away the designation from Butler County. “We’re a county of safety and legislation and order.”
In accordance with County Commissioner Kim Geyer, the sanctuary designation “created a whole lot of heartache and angst” amongst residents who felt it didn’t mirror Butler County’s values.
