Mail stolen from U.S. Postal Service mailbox outside Massachusetts post office: Police
Police are warning residents after mail was stolen from a U.S. Postal Service mailbox outside a local post office early Monday morning.
A maroon, newer model Jeep Cherokee was allegedly involved in the mail theft behind the Bedford Post Office, according to police.
A Bedford police officer parked at the Bedford Market Place at around 1:30 a.m. on Monday reportedly saw the Jeep pull up to the blue Postal Service mailbox behind the post office at 158 Great Road.
The cop then saw a person get out of the Jeep, open the mailbox, and remove mail from it before jumping back into the Jeep.
The police officer chased the Jeep down Great Road and onto I-95 before ending the pursuit due to safety concerns. The driver was reportedly operating erratically.
Bedford Police are investigating the incident with help from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Department of Homeland Security.
“We want to warn anyone who may have deposited a check or other mail in the box behind the post office last night that this incident occurred,” said Chief John Fisher.
“Mail theft and checking washing are becoming increasingly common, and all residents should consider delivering their mail only by hand to the U.S. Post Office, or dropping their mail off prior to the final nightly pickup time for blue Postal Service mailboxes,” the chief added.
Police are asking anyone with information on this incident, or anyone who believes they recognize the vehicle involved, to call Bedford Police at 781-275-1212.

MARLBORO – Let’s face it: saving the planet is a daunting task. It may seem like there is simply too much to do for one person to make a difference.
But that’s not true.
Keep Massachusetts Beautiful
This time of year, before the forests reach their “green up” and after the long winter, litter seems to be everywhere. If you walk or drive in just about any town in New England, and you will see trash strewn along the side of the roads, in our forests, and even on our beaches.
Litter and trash cleanup is a simple, but crucial task that everyone can get involved in.
WBZ’s Alyssa Andrews and Lexie O’Connor recently teamed up with the folks at “Keep Massachusetts Beautiful” at one of their volunteer trash pickups in Marlboro. Dozens of volunteers from a nearby BioTech company joined “Keep Massachusetts Beautiful” founder Neil Rhine and his crew, fanning out throughout the walking trails of Marlboro with trash bags in hand.
After two hours of work on a gorgeous, sunny day, the crew had picked up nearly 20 pounds of trash.
150 tons of trash
Neil tells WBZ that they collected 150 tons of trash around eastern Massachusetts last year alone.
But how do they do it?
Neil and his crew have launched dozens of local chapters in more than 40 cities and towns in the Boston area. Each satellite group works with local government and business leaders to achieve significant and lasting improvements in their towns. Their four main areas of focus are:
- Litter prevention and cleanup
- Waste reduction and recycling
- Beautification and community greening
- Environmental dducation

Report of dog jumping from car window on Route 24 in Massachusetts a cautionary tale
A cautionary tale for those bringing dogs on highway trips.
According to multiple reports, a dog was run over and killed on Route 24 in Stoughton at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Fall River Reporter contacted Massachusetts State Police and it was stated that they had nothing in their logs on the incident in question, however, two people expressed that they saw the dog either fall or jump out of a car window before being run over.
This isn’t the first incident this past year where someone stated that they saw a dog jump out of a car window.
Last July, a dog had to be euthanized after leaping from a car window on Route 8 in Naugatuck, Connecticut.
With the warmer weather coming, more drivers will be tempted to roll down the window and let their beloved pet enjoy the breeze.
Pets are often considered a member of the family and we would hate to see this happen to another dog owner.
