Boston is in for seasonable to cooler highs in the coming days, along with possible showers and storms around mid-week, according to National Weather Service forecasts.

“Our next chance for unsettled weather, like showers, possibly storms, mainly just rain at this time, would be more so late Tuesday, going into Wednesday, and then we dry back out again going into Thursday,” said NWS meteorologist Candice Hrencecin.

The week is set to kick off sunny and seasonably warm, with a high around the low 80s, NWS forecasts. Heading into the night, skies are expected to see increasing clouds and a low in the mid-60s, forecasts show.

Coming out of several hazy days with poor air quality due to smoke blowing down from Canadian wildfires last week, Hrencecin said forecasters will “keep an eye” on the situation in the coming week. Forecasts do not predict more of the poor air conditions for the Boston area “at this time,” she added.

In the early week, air quality is expected to rate good to moderate for the Boston area Monday and Tuesday, according to AirNow.gov.

Over 950 wildfires continued to burn in Canada on Sunday, according to the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System, including many in western Ontario where the smoke originated last week. Smoky conditions lingered over the U.S. Midwest as of Sunday.

Skies are likely to remain mostly cloudy through Tuesday, NWS forecasts, with another high in the low 80s.

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast heading into Tuesday night and expected to continue Wednesday through the late evening, NWS states.

Hrencecin said forecasters will “have to keep an eye out for maybe a rip current risk again” especially towards the middle part of the week. NWS issued a rip current advisory Sunday, the meteorologist said.

Wednesday is expected to get up to a seasonable high in the mid-80s and drop to a low around the mid-60s during the night, as skies remain mostly cloudy.

“Then for the back half of the week, it actually starts to be a little bit lower than normal, generally in the 70s for the most part,” Hrencecin said.

Joey Cantillo v. Paul Skenes was never going to be the most fair of pitching battles, but Cleveland did not help themselves at all. Multiple outs in the basepath, poor defensive efforts, and an inability to capitalize with runners in scoring position left Cantillo with the loss.

Joey pitched well enough and was holding his own in the first five innings. Cantillo pitched into the sixth inning, giving up four earned runs on seven hits and three walks. Cantillo struck out seven batters. In the sixth inning, Pittsburgh only had a 2-1 lead, but back to back doubles with no outs forced Vogt to got to Franco Aleman. Aleman gave up two hits and a walk, allowing an inherited run and an earned run to score.

Hunter Gaddis had a solid outing. His only blemish was a walk. Will Dion pitched the eighth and ninth, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out four.

The offense was, in a word, lackluster and looked like there was a chance to get to Skenes early on. In the bottom of the third Gabriel Arias hit a single. Petey Halpin and Steven Kwan hit back-to-back one out singles with Arias scoring on Kwan’s perfect bunt.

A strike-em-out, throw-em-out play with Bazzana at the plate retired the side as Kwan attempted to steal second base. In the bottom of the fourth, Chase DeLauter got on base via a walk and went first to third on Brayan Rocchio’s single to center. Kyle Manzardo flied out to center and resulted in a double play as Chase DeLauter was thrown out at home. Once again a Cleveland runner did not slide into home. While it makes some sense that someone with CDL’s injury history wouldn’t readily slide into a base, it is still frustrating that it happened in back-to-back games.

The Twins come to town for a four game series starting tomorrow. It will be a righty face off as Joe Ryan takes the mound for Minnesota and Tanner Bibee gets the start for Cleveland. First pitch is at 6:40 PM.

Meriden police say an investigation is ongoing after a shooting occurred at a home on Sagamore Road Sunday morning.

At around 10 a.m. on Sunday, police say they received reports of an active domestic violence situation involving some type of weapon.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers observed a male violently striking a victim to the head with a baseball bat. The victim sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead.

During the encounter with the suspect, an officer involved shooting occurred.

The suspect sustained injuries from the gunfire and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The officer was also transported to the hospital for examination and has since been released.

In a press release, Meriden Police Chief Roberto Rosado wanted to remind the public that, “Officers are often sent on calls not knowing what is actually occurring until they arrive. This is a unique case that reminds us that the dangers of Police work is real.”

This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

The Office of the Inspector General and the Connecticut State Police are investigating this case. The Meriden Police Department is committed to assisting and working to help the investigation.
